Anonymous Coward User ID: 1679900 United States 10/23/2011 09:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | is this latest CME already about to hit? Quoting: NiNzrez we can see a sharp drop starting in the electron flux [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] Hi Nin.. something about to hit: [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] Does anyone have a guess at how hard a hit we are about to take and when? Should we try to protect our electronics and when? No matter how much I keep trying to learn what all these graphs mean, I just don't get some of it. |
Hugh M Eye User ID: 3878716 United States 10/23/2011 09:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | is this latest CME already about to hit? Quoting: NiNzrez we can see a sharp drop starting in the electron flux [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] The CACTus (Computer-Aided CME Tracking) website shows 25 CMEs from 10/21-10/22; of course some were huge and others barely noticeable. It gets really confusing triangulating the data/imagery and then following the energies as they expand outward from the sun. [link to www.sidc.oma.be] My hunch is the smaller CME is more Earth-directed (before the large one at North and the big-fast-blast which followed 10 hours later w/M-flare). [link to www.sidc.oma.be] The NEW NOAA Enlil Solar Wind Prediction model has a "storm-mode" CME-based model. According to this model, NOAA expects geo-effectiveness to begin 20-24 hours from now. But with 25 CMEs and only one shown on model, it's anyone's guess what's going on. [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] |

aether User ID: 1412926 United Kingdom 10/24/2011 07:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Stereo Ahead C2 shows two CMEs between 19:39 UTC Mar. 11, and 4:24 UTC Mar. 12. Quoting: tomasgod1There was an Earth facing CME that shows up beginning at 19:39:24 UTC 2011/03/11, and another (very large) CME on the far side of the Sun starting at 4:24:24 UTC 2011/03/12. [link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov] Cool, is that from the M1 flare a little while ago? I wonder why there's a big cme now but not with the x flare? good catch tom :) did you happen to see this on SOHO [link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov] know what those are? as space is not a vacuum it must be an atmosphere in an atmosphere life moves Beyond the Atmosphere Quoting: nasaThe exosphere starts at the top to the thermosphere and continues until it merges with interplanetary gases, or space. In this region of the atmosphere, Hydrogen and Helium are the prime components and are only present at extremely low densities. [link to www.nasa.gov] our authorities confirm there are "fields" in every part of our universe, gravity, electric and magnetic, the non material dimensional forces that form and sustain units (matter) within them now confirmation of gases (atmosphere to something(s)) Last Edited by aether on 10/24/2011 11:57 AM |

[link to www2.nict.go.jp] The initial wave was pretty weak and then faded-but now things are getting bumpy. If the big CME hit us straight on we may've been in a bit of trouble, but this is just the edge of the wave so we should be fine. There's really no way of knowing when a particular satellite may malfunction or if GPS will go off-until it happens. Kp Index at Longyearbyen, Norway is at Storm level 6-everywhere else is at 4 or 5 right now. [link to flux.phys.uit.no] [link to flux.phys.uit.no] |

Quoting: Spittin'Cesium Yeah, I've never seen such a high storm level with this low SW velocity. I know there were several major CMEs, but none was directly in our face. This seems quite strong for a glancing blow. Here's the NOAA satellite environment plots: [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] |
