Top Shiite Cleric in Iraq Urges Inclusive Government
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s most influential Shiite cleric, Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, issued a statement on Friday calling on Iraq’s diverse political parties to move quickly to form a government. He also again clarified that his call for volunteers to defend Iraq against extremist jihadis was not meant as a call to arms for Shiites, but for all Iraqis.

The statement, issued at Friday Prayer in the Shiite holy city of Karbala, was conveyed by Ahmed al-Safi, a leading Shiite cleric and the Sistani representative there.

Mr. Safi said that all political blocs should stick to the timing required in the Constitution to convene a new Parliament by July 2. In the past, government formations have often taken much longer. “The winning bloc should hold dialogue in order to form an effective government that enjoys wide national acceptance to correct the past mistakes and open new horizons for Iraqis for a better future,” Mr. Safi said.

Fun, ain't it?

It's nice to see some of our media catching up on this, with the AP articles today, but here's how wrong most of them still are...I just heard on local conservative talk radio, during an ABC News break, "Shiite cleric al-Sistani is calling for Iraqi prime minister Maliki to be more inclusive of minorities in his government." That's not what Sistani said, at all. He said "New government." Period.
 Quoting: Revbo™

Actually he said:

Quote:

""He also called for the wise Iraqi political forces to abide by Palmdd constitutional and formation of a government acceptable to the national scale, indicating that the Federal Court approval of the election results, paving the way for the formation of a government within the bishop specific time, stressing the important role of reconciliation political solution to the security crisis and pull the fuse of this crisis and dismantled"

So he said Iraq must follow the constitution and Iraq must accept the results of Federal Court election results approval.

So according to the constitution the winning block of the election gets to name their pick for Prime Minister which according to the official election results was the Rule of Law party...and the Rule of Law party has stated that their pick for PM is...Maliki.

All ready happened...they were made official on Monday the 16th.

"The State of Law bloc led by Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki won the the parliamentary elections, taking 92 of the 328 seats.

BAGHDAD — Iraq's supreme court ratified the results of the April 30 parliamentary elections on Monday.

"The court has approved the results of the elections except for four candidates who have ongoing trials against them," Supreme Judicial Council spokesperson Abdul Sattar Bayraktar told Anadolu Agency.

The State of Law bloc led by Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki won the the parliamentary elections, taking 92 of the 328 seats.

Predominantly Shia al-Muwatin ended up with 29 seats, while the Mutahidoun bloc of Sunni Muslims got 23 seats.

Al-Maliki needs support from 165 lawmakers to lead the next government in what would be his third term as prime minister.

On April 30, some 12 million Iraqis-except those in the violence-wracked Anbar province-cast ballots in parliamentary polls contested by a total of 9,200 candidates.

So maybe by the beginning of next week sometime as we may have the victory declaration this weekend...maybe Sunday? Monday?

So Maliki victory speech first...then parliament comes together.

Iraq crisis: Maliki’s days in power numbered as Iran and US lose faith

[link to www.independent.co.uk]

Isolated and discredited by humiliating military defeat, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, is likely to go soon, battered as he is by only slightly veiled demands for his immediate departure from powerful figures who once supported him. Within hours of President Obama making it implicitly clear that he wants a change of political leadership in Baghdad, the spiritual leader of the Iraqi Shia, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, was calling for a new and “effective” government that avoided the mistakes of the old. Nobody in Baghdad has any doubts that he wants the Prime Minister gone.

I'm back on the phone for the weekend, so I guess I won't be getting any copyright violations, but I'm seeing an article on Sotaliraq.com that has a member of Sadr's group, named Kanani, saying since SOL nominated Maliki and refuses to back down, they're going to break up the National Alliance, and end the SOL's obstruction, and take whomever their nominee is directly to Parliament. If it goes that way, SOL will nominate Maliki, he will be rejected, and then the Sadrists, being the second place finisher, will nominate their guy, probably either Chalabi or Adel Mahdi.

Re: Iraq an economic Study
Thu. June 19th Matrix of Information UPDATE

According to our Matrix of Information the next events may be:

1. Maliki calling a special presser to announce a victory over the ISIS forces driving them back into Syria with the few that remain to be captured or killed in short order. He will give special praise to both Shia and Sunnis for coming together in unity to defeat the forces of evil. This will solidify his success as the next PM.

2. This successful action will be touted as a surprise development by the US press and the next major focus will be on the billions of missing Iraqi dinar which is now hidden in Syria with ISIS and the PROBLEM that will be on a global scale.

3. The surprise turn of events will give the US an excuse to begin air operations in Syria and the reason given will be to destroy ISIS before they can launch global terror.

4. This dialectic launched with the missing IQD as the PROBLEM will have quite the REACTION worldwide that will demand a SOLUTION.

5. Said SOLUTION will come via the Central Bank of Iraq announcing the emergency implementation of the "removal of zeros" plan and the issuing of the new currency.

6. Because of the PROBLEM of the stolen currency this exchange will have to be accelerated to a 30 day or less time period and the excuse given will be the need to limit the ability of ISIS to launder the stolen IQD to fund global terror.

7. It is anticipated this emergency action by the CBI will happen on or before July 1st 2014.

So the next major expected event will be the announcement from Malaki on victory over the terrorist.

My next Matrix update will follow after the announcement of victory.

Be advised...we have two obvious uses of the Hegelian Dialectic in play at this time...one on the political side (Maliki as PM) and one on the currency side (change of value of the IQD)

Have a plan...and plan to act.

We are getting closer to our next temporal marker of Maliki declaring victory.

Iraq has a constitution and Iraq has laws and according to the constitution and those laws the party with the most seats (the "State of Law" which was certified and approved by the Iraqi Supreme Court) gets to select the next Prime Minister.

No matter how much you are a fan of Obama and Obama's desires...what Obama wants does not override the laws and constitution of Iraq.

The Rule of Law Party secured commitment to all of the needed votes 2 weeks ago.

He is a shoe in.

But this will be a PROBLEM for the Kurds...and cause quite the REACTION which will require...a SOLUTION.

Re: Iraq an economic Study
from DD:

6-21-14 DSull: (IMO) There will be NO RV until there is a stable government in Iraq (period!). No one wants Maliki as the PM, except Maliki.

Although Maliki's political party (the SOL) have the most votes (93-95), it will take at least 167 parliament votes to win the PM seat.

The process is not like here in the US, where we basically have 2 parties, and we vote for a President. In Iraq, they vote for a political party, as in Parliament seats. Those winning groups form a block of at least 167 seats, which gives them more than half of the Parliament Seats and subsequently the right to choose a Prime Minister.

Once these "blocks" are formed, Parliament holds its first meeting and names a President.

At this time, the "winning block" (the one formed earlier, which obtains at least 167 seats), submits there PM Candidate for ratification.

Once this PM is accepted, an announcement is made and the PM is seated.

There is the government.

There is time given between each of these stages of the process, but it is a max time.

Clearly the new Parliament has now been formed, because they were scheduled for their first meeting on June 30th. Then, a few days ago, that initial meeting was moved up to this Tuesday (June 24th), a full week early!

Your guess is as good as mine, but, I believe the government has already been formed. We simply await the official process to be completed and the announcements.

Again, IMO we will not see an International RV until there is a stable government. And, rightly so.

All that being said, as well the fact of the July 1st date for so many agreements to start, including the ISX -International release date, I do believe that Iraq is expediting this "process" and will have a new, seated, functional government before the end of this coming week, in order to RV their currency by or before July 1st.

I will even take it one step further and say that Maliki will not be the next PM, but Chalibi will.

Personally, I would also like to see Barzani (from the Kurds) as the next Iraqi President, but that's just wishful thinking.

Here's to our long awaited international RV between Tuesday (June 24th) and Tuesday (July 1st)!

Can't post the link, but I was able to copy the headline. It's on sotaliraq, if anyone can grab the link. Basically, if this Iranian source is right, Maliki just agreed to immediate implementation of Article 140, and to allow the Kurds to export, themselves, for five years. If this is true, it's a total game changer. That would keep Maliki prime minister, but it would also keep the Kurds part of Iraq. They're still gonna have to deal with the Sunnis' demands, but this is pretty much going back to the old Erbil Agreement.

Correct and not only that it was brokered by Iran and the only way the deal can go through is for the Kurds to back Maliki.

But dig this...I still think AFTER Maliki is reelected the Kurds will protest in some way or the other and that they will call for the referendum and blame the move on Maliki holding the Prime minister seat anyway.
