Do Not Pull the Emergency Brake Cord Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19127552 Use the emergency brake cord only when the motion of the subway presents an imminent danger to life and limb. Otherwise, do not activate the emergency brake cord, especially in a tunnel. Once the emergency brake cord is pulled, the brakes have to be reset before the train can move again, which reduces the options for dealing with the emergency [link to www.mta.info] That would be fine if the people on the platform were in a subway car. There is no emergency brake cord on the platform. As you said a real man can admit when he is wrong. i think you missed the point.. vaguely related to trains and emergencies and slightly off topic, it was the irony that the use of an emergency break in the wrong kind of emergency can be the wrong thing to do. There is no emergency brake cord on the platform. As you said a real man can admit when he is wrong. It was 2 different issues. He was claiming there no emergency brakes accessible to passengers on the train. There is. And every platform has a 3rd rail off switch, ON the platform. It apparently not well known, but it's there. Nice try, but this is my post that you responded to. It's not publicized, but each platform does have that switch. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19127552 Go and see. It's on every platform. The MTA likely doesn't want the undesirables to know it's there, but it is there. LOL, it also says, "they are not on the platform", do you have trouble reading English? Brauchst du mich auf Deutsch zu stellen, damit Sie es durch Ihre dicken Schädel zu bekommen? do you have trouble using your mind to elaborate? its obviously not on the platform itself its near the tunnels. you see they are telling us exactly where it is No, are you having trouble following the thread? Somebody stated there was an emergency off switch on the platform, I said there isn't, I'm quite sure there are controls of some kind in the tunnel, why didn't stupid sheeple run into the tunnel while they were waiting for the 6:25? Next time, run right in hero! You know where the switch is, so you'll have no troubles, right mate? |

Also note, these are APART from the brightly lit ones for normal public use. Well, I draw two conclusions: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1044523 1.) Each NYC platform does have a power shutoff switch, most likely at the far end and probably slightly into the tunnel where the maintenance access is. Although it may be in a slightly "off limits" area, it is COMPLETELY physically accessible. The clerk himself, a 62-year-old man, had to be able to sprint down the platform, find it, and activate it, all before the train arrived from the next station. This would imply that it is accessible to anyone from platform level. 2.) The NYC transit company MTA does not want people screwing with it, so they don't bother to announce the fact that they exist, which is a HUGE safety violation... because pretty much every other goddamn subway line in the 1st world has them clearly marked. Christ, must be like living in one giant ghetto. Ghetto? lol NYC is the greatest city on earth. At least 8.2 million people who live there seem to think so. I love it! You should visit sometime. You don't get around much, do ya? |

There is obviously some way to shut the power off, I'm not a fucking moran! Quoting: 1nf1del ok! we understand, no one is arguing that its not on the platform so stop. we now know its in the tunnel just next to the end of the platform. and we still quite aware that no one switched it off. My point is proven, none of you sheeple knew where this "switch" was until this thread, I didn't know where it was and I grew up riding the MTA in Boston and Manhattan. I knew about it, the German guy knew about it, Hell everyone but you and one other person assumed there would be a power shutoff near the end of the platform. Why do we think people should have acted, despite the fact some of you aren't aware of your safety features? Well let me explain... imagine some granny drives her Bandit off the subway platform, or gets pushed, whatever. Old lady with broken hip and a motorized cart are now on the tracks, and pose a significant safety hazard to themselves and any oncoming train. Do you... A.) Look for something to cut power to the tracks, or an intercom, or an employee. or... B.) Stand around scratching your nuts. If you answered B, you are officially a Useless Fuck. B. I don't have nuts to scratch, but I would have been a useless fuck because: These switches are located in areas that are NOT accessible to subway customers. They are not on the station platform, and they're not accessible to the token booth clerk either. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19132951 the argument is not the fact that they obviously didnt find the switch, its that they didnt even start looking. and more importantly that at the same time as someone looking for a switch, the strongest people in the bunch didnt grab his arms and pull him up. no one did anything apart form one woman patheticly looked after his shirt during the electrocution and another filmed it. She only held out the shirt and mentioned it to bribe him. She tried her best. She could not have handled him to pull him out. i think we already excused her inabilty, you should already be passed this point. past |
