overwhatshername .... Good ideas, BUT ..... May I suggest that you surround yourself with family ONLY to start, as there will be enough problems to start with everyone related.

Second, I realized for any type of 'community' to form that WORKS TOGETER, you need some VERY simple starting rules, as MOST expect someone else to care for them, have empathy, etc.etc.

Three rules will put a stop to that attitude:

1. EVERYBODY works !

2. If you DON'T work, you DON'T EAT !

3. WORK comes FIRST !

Among other things, one needs to be VERY stern about keeping ALL bankers, lawyers and politicians OUT of your group, as they know NOTHING about work; WILL foment trouble in order to get out of work and try to 'run the show' while everyone else slaves for them ( their present role ); whisper, start rumors/back bite, until they make 'Their' own little controlled world.

Me personally since im not in the big city and moving to the country in 3 months. I should be good for the remainder of my life.

You just need to be able to hunt/farm/build/Have access to a lake that hopefully wouldn't be contaminated with harsh chemicals.

I have been pointing that out for a while now.
During the famine of the Stalin years, Russia and Ukraine had most of their wildlife killed.

People hunted everything to near extinction and some over that point.
Only NOW in the last decade are the animals coming back....and some of that is due solely to conservation programs that brought back some of the species.

YES.

Even long ago on the frontier, they overhunted in their local village environs and killed off too many. They had to go on hunting parties, and then travel back with the game. The issue were to how far to hunt and then get back before spoilage.

Hunting is a month long proposition probably. Since there won't be any rules, young animals would be taken too. This means the death of a species within a localized area.

Read my link for a lot of reasons that hunting won't work.

Hunting requires a lot of calories to be used up, and you could waste more than you could consume. The most successful hunting parties in tribal societies were groups that took down large game, but they also ate more. Only the prevalance of the buffalo allowed the Plains Native Americans to survive by hunter-gathering.

Trapping is far more efficient. Since young animals are taken too, plus more are taken, an area can be overtrapped very quickly.

There were valid reasons that raising livestock came to be a normal part of agriculture. The farmers needed the animal protein on a regular basis, plus they need the manure to enrich the soil, plus they needed milk and eggs. Milk concentrates the calcium gathered versus wild edibles plus gives long lasting cheeses.

Don't imagine you'll hunt for very long. Also realize that scads of wannabee hunters will scare away animals and ruin hunting for everyone else. This plus causing a lot of hunting accidents and violence and stolen game from traps and fights with other hunters.

NO, because we are smart enough to grow livestock.

Lived a week without power when that dericho rolled through the North East in June... and it got into the 100's... People were panicking and throwing out food that was near bad, then went crazy trying to get food at the markets. Me? I took the chicken I had left and went to the grill that we had in our apartment complex. We cooked it up so that it wouldn't go bad as fast and ate some of it.

If I had to, I could have gone much longer. I have a friend who hunts deer and skins them. I have some outdoors survival skills and believe I would fair decently.

Water filtration and purification - Boil your water and create a primitive filtration system (charcoal and sand).

Food - Hunt and gather... we have been doing it for years...

Shelter/Sleep - There are numerous resources online on how to do this and many many ways to accomplish it.

There is a lot more to all of this of course but I am probably not AS qualified as some of the other more hardcore survivalists.

Grow livestock?...to feed the masses?
....with no electrical power?

Bringing things back online could take 3-5 years if the USA was hit by a massive sun induced EMP and it cooked everything.....or if a directed gamma ray burst ever hits Earth, the electrical grid would be GLOBALLY cooked.

You are living in a dreamworld.
These tards can't handle a MONTH before going FERAL and god knows how bad it would be at 6 or 12 or more months.

Yes....I have thought about that extensively since I live near a village that is known to be a "horse" commnity.

It comes to my mind very often that there will not be a single horse left there as they will all be killed for food.

I watched the LA riots from the next city (South Gate) so I know what will happen in cities..

Absolutely I will survive longer that probably 99%.

AC 1110734 ..... Quite right on overhunting, as during the great Depression I lived through, everyone with a gun hunted.

BUT, in my rural CT town, there was ALSO LOTS of forests, open land AND people generally had a good sized garden, raised chickens for meat and eggs. The elite/wealthy had ALL the money and controlled MOST of the local jobs, one way or another. Lucky for us, two uncles worked in Remington Arms and always brought second hand ammo, when the came from the city to hunt. Problem now is, with so MANY 'I'll take what I need' guns in the hands of the do nothing crowd, one could be out of ammo soon from nearly defending yourself.

Well then all we can do is wait for the day and be as prepared as we can be. When shit hits the fan, it will be because of the battle of Armageddon. It won't be the EMP gamma whatnot gobbly gook. It's going to be them shutting off society because they want to prove they are in control.

It's been written, foretold, whatever you want to believe. The day that we don't know when nor the hour is close. No matter how prepared you are, it doesn't matter if you aren't properly aligned spiritually.

...and Sandy made me think of some things I hadn't covered well enough. It was like a small "test run" for a mega-outtage and being on your own.

Told me a lot about people psychologically as well.
95% of them are NOT prepared mentally with how to act, what to do, how to think.....etc.
Not to mention their lack of physical preparedness.
They don't even have freaking gas cans to hold spare fuel!

It boggles the mind.

We had idiots here burning up precious fuel in their cars to go to work when they had no way to refuel their cars.
It was like they had no idea what to do....so they kept trying to do what they used to do.
It blew my mind.

I didn't really didn't need sandy to know that the vast majority of the population are locked into the normality mindset. An EMP, which is very much a reality, would reduce our population maybe 80%. The person earlier that poo pooed an EMP will be among those lost.

Given 3-6 months of no power...that 80% is probably quite accurate based upon what I saw.

They don't think of the What if. I guess they think the government will take of them, but the government will be in the same situation..

The government was in the same situation.
NYC ambulance, fire and police cars ran out of fuel as well.
They had to run a special tanker up the Hudson River just to get fuel to the refinery and out to the major distributors.

Government got stopped too.

...and FEMA???? lol Don't even get me started.
People are FOOKED if they rely on them. That became abundantly clear too.

Like I said....this was a a trial run for a real scenario and people FAILED this test.
I learned a lot and I thought I knew a lot already...but this was an eye opener.

Please, I lived without electricity when I was a kid and teen when my granddad built a house in the middle of nowhere.

He did not even have a phone for years, we did just fine.

It is not the lack of electricity that will kill most, it will be the lack of MEDS.

Take away the prescription drugs, anti-depressants and pain killers and that will be an issue.

When you know how to survive by having done that, and you are a friend of nature, mother nature will always take care of you (hard work required!).

There are two things I haven't seen mentioned.

IF SHTF...

What will we do with our dead? I see people talking about building shelters, etc., but chances are high, we will all still be living in our own houses for a bit before we have to be nomadic...What are we going to do with our dead?

If it is a mass power outage, we will have a lot of dead in the first two weeks to a month...We, as survivors, will have to dispose of the dead...Someone or a large group of someones, will have to go house to house to collect and burn the dead.

The second thing is What will we do with our waste? If we continue to stay in our homes for weeks and we have a mass power outage, we will all have to figure out how to dispose of our trash and our bodily waste.

Disease will run rampant if these two needs aren't addressed immediately. And then, all of us will die.

It won't be like we see on tv or in the movies. We won't be able to leave the dead where they lie and let them decompose on their own...Ugh...

Just sayin...something serious to think about...
