Who's not Having Christmas Dinner this year? Financially Strapped.

Hey OP you can get the same exact meal plus fresh rolls at the local grocers for about $40 and it's excellent.

Just saying for those of us who can't afford to match your offer here, you can still find a local charity or even just send a meal to a local family you know may need help.

For the most part your are right. But there are a lot of proud people out there that won't ask for help. It's very anonymous here.

Also, I didn't want to send a grubby Christmas meal. I want to send something that doesn't taste like cardboard and was a little over the top. Something a little more special. I've never had a gourmet Christmas dinner sent to me. Of course I grew up with great cooks in the family. No need.

What gives you the right to judge and criticize the way OP has chosen to help out this holiday season???? Is this a response Christ would give?

This is a calloused and untrue statement.

There are those who get caught in the middle, make too much to qualify for assistance, but not enough to truly support themselves. If they are living paycheck to paycheck, food and presents become last on the list, because money is going to bills, and gas to get to work.

Are you serious? How do you know pokerface isn't doing that already for one thing????

That is very thoughtful of you. We always provide food baskets every year. Our schools here have food and clothes runs twice a year also and I think it is a valuable lesson for children to learn.

I remember very clearly my father leaving us and literally taking everything and not supporting us. I was so grateful for the friends we had who gave us clothing that fit, things for our home and putting food in our cupboards until my mom was able to start all over.

I will always try to pay it forward if I am able to.

I think he was talking to the armchair Christians out there, not to you who seems to be very giving.

I don't think it's as much of a religious problem as it is a foot in mouth syndrome.

I had a Swedish grandma too and she used to make me eat all manner of horrible stuff LOL

My spouse's pay was cut (every employee had to take a cut or no job), I haven't found a job, and I have two ravenous teenagers to feed. I'm about to go to a payday advance place today to cover our expenses for the next 13 days, so that's only about $255 and very little left over for Christmas.

At least we have each other. A lot of people are alone and they need help much more than we do.

OP i believe your act of kindness is beautiful. It not only is gracious, but it inspires others who are having a nice Christmas to think of others in need, whether they be religious or not.
We haven't had Christmas since 2010. Things haven't been financially stable enough for us to eek out that little extra it costs to have a big dinner and gifts, however, we haven't let that turn us into scrooges. We'll just have another wonderful day surrounded by a loving family and be thankful that others still have the money to do Christmas, and we have enough money to pay our bills. Besides, Christmas isn't about all the trappings, it's about being together and showing love for your fellow man... an act that can be performed daily, no special occasion needed.
I sincerely hope that whomever the recipient is, they will enjoy it and take time out of their day to think about others all over the world that are in much worse shape than themselves. I don't have much, but my joy and compassion are abundant. A very happy holiday to each and every one that reads this thread, have a beautiful holiday surrounded by good friends and family.

This is a nice thing you are doing.

We are financially in a hole due to lack of work. Luckily, we have somewhere to go to for dinner.

Hoping 2013 will be a little better.

I just wish our bankruptcy would have went better. We are left with a 10K bill to pay from that one. This will take us a long time to pay off. I keep thinking I could have used some of that money to train for a job that pays well. If things would have went differently with the bankruptcy, I would have been able to afford to get training. Unfortunately, not the case.

Something I have wanted to do, but just haven't mustered up the courage to do, is invite a homeless person over for Christmas dinner. When my mother was a little girl, her father every year would bring someone to their home to have a Christmas dinner with them. He would say to her " it is just another potato in the pot for us, but a warm meal and place to stay for them".

My mother said even though she was very scared at first seeing these strangers, they always brought wonderful stories to the table and one man showed magic tricks. Now if I can muster the courage and convince my husband that it is a good idea, I will try it.
