Re: Why our hospitals are close to total failure/modern day patients/ obamacare
Well, I'll chime in- I have 2 sisters-in law that are medical professionals, one is a surg nurse and the other has been working her way through school and started as a CNA. My nurse SIL now works regular hours in a surgery center, pretty sweet gig. My CNA SIL has worked in several areas at Vanderbilt Hospital: surgical step-down, child surg stepdown, ICU, NICU and currently in the newborn nursery. It is standard that she has 10 or more patients at a time. She tells me how hard it is on the CNAs and nurses, how management does not give a rats ass about them. She is EXCELLENT at her job and her performance reviews could not really be any better. The nurses and CNAs truly work as a team. She was about to start her nursing school classes and decided to change to become a surgery tech and on to a first assistant in surgery. Not as much money, but close, and better work environment. It is terrifying how understaffed our hospitals are. Of course both SILs say management does not care about that at all, and often when someone calls out (nurse or CNA) management does not schedule a replacement or floater, they just let the staff be overloaded and have an even more terrifying and exhausting day. My SIL who is still in school has wanted to be a nurse forever, but after working in many areas of a major hospital for years, she has changed her mind. Sad.

I feel for the healthcare workers and how hard it is, but I would like to say something about some things that I have observed in the hospitals and Dr offices.

When my daughter was in extreme pain, in the emergency room, it took hours for the nurses to get approval for tests, surgery etc. They would not give my child anything for pain, they did not care, The nurses and doctors, were right there in front of the window, eating snacks, food, laughing, on their phones and computers, in the freakin emergency room. Then, after 5 hours of her being in pain, this arrogant doctor, comes in, an engages my kid in conversation, insinuating that she could be pregnant. I am not stupid, and knew exactly what that ass was getting at. She was, 11 years old, and it ended up being what I told them I thought it was, appendicitis.

This post accurately describes what I have seen in the ER. Many times we get people in our office who need to be seen in the ER. They need radiological & laboratory services on a stat basis, something we don't do in our office. Many refuse to go because of their past experiences in the ER. They will literally suffer in pain at home while awaiting to get tests & results.

The only time I would go to the ER is major friggin trauma. 30 years ago, if this 11 year old had come into our ER, she would have been diagnosed & in the OR in less than an hour. So, why the delay today? Several factors are involved, but the main delay is caused by the need to "get approval" to make sure the bill will be paid. It use to be the Attending Physician making the assessment of the patient that made the sole decisions of care. That physician knew that it was not in the beat interest of the patient to delay treatment. Her appendix might rupture & threaten her life & full recovery.

Today, that Physician would be treated as a nuisance. All the paper pushers, both hospital & insurance, have to get involved. In my opinion, these unnecessary people are the one's increasing the cost & destroying simple, appropriate medical care. They do nothing but frustrate everyone involved & increase the likelihood that the proper medical treatment will be delayed & increase the suffering of the patient.

We don't admit to the hospital anymore because it takes up too much of our time. Our local hospital employs Hospitalists. It never ceases to amaze us that they have never once contacted us when one of our patients is at the ER or admitted to the hospital. That would make too much sense to contact us, the physicians who have been caring for this patient for the last 30 years. We know their past medical history & current medical history. We know their family. We know what makes the patient unique.

It's just down right sad. Most of these Hospitalists have names we can't even pronounce. In other words, they are not American physicians. Is this a problem? In my opinion it is. Many of our elderly patients would rather die than have to spend a night in any hospital. Sad, sad, sad.

I think its a huge problem, but one made by the medical community, we are seeing the end result of their greed.
If doctors cared about health and were trained to cure issues instead of treat them in the beginning, they would not have as many patients.
The motivation to become a doctor for generations has been money, not curing people.

Its not that they don't care but until they have a definitive idea regarding what is causing abdo pain they cannot really give pain meds. And yes it takes ages to get the diagnostics to get an accurate pic of what is going on. Stuff like morphine can be very dangerous when it is a case of abdo pain with unknown cause. They could have done more harm than good by just throwing pain meds at your daughter. The staff at the station could have been support staff or nurses and docs responsible for other patients and therefore not allowed to know about your kid. Only her designated nurse and doctor can get involved with her.\

While people always joke about how evil lawyers are, in the end this is another example of how these parasitic scum bags destroy any and every institution they can find for their own profit. Even the smallest towns across America pay millions of dollars every year for Ordinances and Master Plans that are supposed to "protect" them from being sued, yet year after year they, along with institutions such as hospital, municipalities and corporations are sued out of existence by these bags of human garbage.

Never give them a word in their own defense for their business is twisting laws and words into weapons of theft. Every civilized nation or system of government is eventually brought to it's knees or outright destruction and downfall by these criminals. They legislate themselves into control of the government and then they legislate themselves into draining every cent of value out of every possible revenue source until there is nothing left but crumbled ruins. Shakespeare was right and it is NO joke.
