What makes it so strange? He enjoys astronomy. Nibiru/Planet X is a topic of interest within astronomy. I fail to see what's so hard for you to understand. Perhaps you're trying to connect the dots in the wrong order.

Dr. Astro:

It is really obvious we need a thread that explores the basic of astrophysics. Some of the people on this thread aren't quite up to speed.

The topical facts that should be covered include:
1. The earth isn't flat.
2. The earth is round (more or less) and rotates on its axis once a day.
3. The earth revolves around the sun once a year.
...

Eventually you could work up to latitude and declination and the apparent path objects take through the sky. And that the solar system's baricenter is partway between the sun and Jupiter (and to a lesser extent Saturn).

Re: Jupiter's Orbit is NOT "Off."
So according to this video that's been going viral lately, Jupiter is "off."

I compared the position of Jupiter in the SOHO images from the time periods covered by the above youtube video to the predicted position of Jupiter based on ephemeris that were originally generated in 1890 by George Hill. It's position is normal, even though I'm comparing it to data that originates over 120 years ago (in other words, no way it's part of some "NASA cover-up").

I didn't bother accounting for the position of SOHO in this case. I could squeeze a little more accuracy out of it if I did that, but I don't think it's necessary in this case (it would also require importing SOHO's orbital data uniquely for each observation epoch). It was enough work to convert and import the old ephemeris into modern software. Rather than try to modify the VSOP87 algorithms, I simply imported mean Keplerian elements for Jupiter at each observation epoch (derived from the original Hill data) into Celestia. ORSA was used to propagate the data to each observation epoch.

I made a gif animation showing the various comparisons. It starts with a simple 3 frame comparison similar to what the youtube video showed (one image from 2000, one from 2007, and one from 2012). I then compared this to the ephemeris data using celestia, registering each image based on the stars (effectively doing astrometry by hand). As you can see, Jupiter's where it should be in the image, even according to 19th century data.

[link to img705.imageshack.us]

I also did a direct measurement of Jupiter's position in a video you may have seen before, and indeed it's perfectly normal to within at least 1.69 arcseconds (far high resolution than what you can see in the SOHO images).

Re: Jupiter's Orbit is NOT "Off."
Dr. Astro, since Jupiter Sun is kept constantly behind our sun from us, (by adjustment of its orbital speed), I don't thinks its possible to know if its OFF or not.

I have not looked at star ship Jupiter of late to compare to my sky program in location, but you don't even know if that puppy is in Jupiter orbit. It could even be orbiting earth with careful computer calculations to put it where people expect to see it in the sky.

I do know that is NOT Jupiter out there in the sky, that was proven to me summer 2009 when they lights were turned OFF on it, then back on and then dimmed and brightened plus the craft was moved around.

I have also observed Star ship Sirius to move around, and over quite a distance visually and there was a witness with me, who watched that in another state, not standing next to me, at the same time.

You can see Jupiter sun being moved behind our sun in mid March 2009 here:

[link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov] It has a solar corona and as I explained often here, at the time Jupiter was observed in this video, people had been seeing Star ship Jupiter with hologram long before mid March, yet Nasa admits in this that Jupiter was not seen YET.

I used to have the record and had it typed up. I don't have it on this computer and don't feel like doing it again. I would suggest Dr. Astro that YOU do so. I could use my star program and move it back to 2009 and determine that again. But again, I think you should Dr. Astro, you would learn something and it would change your paradigm. give it a shot.

If you don't want to, maybe some others here would do that? Any takers? Go figure when Jupiter was supposed to be seen from the southern hemisphere that year.

As a side note, consider that in about 130 B.C., the same time frame as the creation of the Maya calendar, the Greek astronomer Hipparchus estimated precession to be 36,000 years or less. He was off by 10,000 years! Even so, Hipparchus is very famous for his work on precession and he wrote two books on the subject. He is considered by some people to be the greatest astronomer of antiquity. I can only add that it's a good thing he was not in charge of creating the Maya calendar! (

Interesting post.

I said spontaneously to Venus. I know you're a craft, and it vanished, and it kept on coming back and vanishing. But the 3rd, 4th and so times it vanished and came back, it came back a stain glass, cobalt blue, several times. And I asked my then 12 year old son if he was seeing this and he replied, of course, do you think I'm stupid?

And then it came back and pretended to be a star/planet and acted like Venus again.
