Quoting: tatmark1 ive fought professional mma. certainly not afraid to throw down ah much respect for muay thai, very tough style. Personally Im not a fan of grappling as I am mainly a striker and have gotten into many arguments about a good striker always beating a grappler, even when on the ground. I guess for that to work you need heavy bone structure and proper punching technique, both of which i have plenty of. How have you fared against strikers? |

I got hurt in that class more than I ever did on the street. There was days I had to call into work because of something being sprained..It was alot of fun. Quoting: waterman studied Koei Khan and Goju Ryu as a kid. Khan was great for katas and Goju was great when i wanted to look like Bruce Lee with high flying kicks. My best move back then was mawashi ugeri = Jumping roundhouse into spinning back kick all in one move. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 16069571 United States 09/27/2012 10:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I actually had something similiar happen to me in club 2 weeks ago. some drunk asshole slams into me with his girl and I pushed them off, next thing you know this idiot punches me right in the mouth. His face immediately turned to an expression of terror when i didn't flinch and proceeded to send him flying 5ft into two other people who went flying along with him. I start raising my fists yelling at him to get up when I feel this HUGE arm go around my throat, thinking one of his friends was trying to jump me I immediately powered out of the chokehold only to see it was a bouncer. We wrestled for a few mins with me getting the better of him and walking out on my own. I'll be dammed if some mofo hauls me out in a chokehold. |

Here are three important lessons I learned: 1. There is always someone tougher than me. 2. It is hard to tell how tough someone is by looking at them. 3. Weapons negate decades of unarmed training instantly. |

But having done alot of both I will say that for a stand alone martial art grappling is the way to go. one of my last fight was against a guy that had been a striker since childhood, he came in with a combo i threw a few then went for the take down and go it |

Quoting: the mighty Atom "Killing with Bamboo Expert" a talented boxer always has a great chance against any fighting style. I LOL when I see some of these UFC fights with their piss poor version of a jab. I know for a fact that a fighter with a lightning stiff jab and good inside hooks would embarrass Jon Paul Jones inside one round. |
