Unnecessary workers need to be laid off. Government shtudown need to be forever.

Everyone that had or has the potential of being directly or downstream affected by lack of income has credit cards to cover the hole.

Back pay has already been voted on by both houses of congress and signed by the president. When the back pay comes in you pay down the credit cards. Been doing this since '71 so it's an old hat routine. Just eat the interest and service charges (if any if it's a short stay)

Non-essential is the legal term. That includes janitorial contracts (essentials take out their own trash and do the sweep-down/vacuuming), snow removal company retainers (one-time emergency funds pay a local company), various paper shuffling jobs that fulfill legal requirements to initiate new contracts (now they are suspended) and these kinds of things.

Essential services are all funded but it means those people do the services jobs previously done by non-essentials. That means the workday for the essentials is split and reduced into only having enough time in the day to perform only the highest priority tasks. The other essential service tacks are put on a worklist for later.

No, you're wrong. "First off", not all federal workers are lazy scum. And many of those that are weren't that way before they entered federal service. Working for the federal government can -and will- corrupt even the purest of hearts. TRUST ME on this!

Secondly, if they did go into federal service with some measure of integrity, why should you condemn them for finding a well-paying job with some of the best bennies around? Sounds pretty SMART to me! Beyond that: once upon a time the government only wanted the BEST and the BRIGHTEST - and you had to take a 4hr Civil Service exam to prove that you could do the job. Anything less than a 72% score and you were out the door. Today, those standards have been lowered to the point where a functional illiterate can qualify... and if you happen to have a disability [mental or physical], you are automatically management material. Want to know where THAT came from? Read on....

Thirdly, the workers didn't create such an uneven playing field, it was the federal Agencies themselves -or more accurately- their employee UNIONS that did! People are very quick to accuse the government of overpaying it's employees but the TRUTH of the matter is that the UNIONS are the ones that actually set those rates [through nearly endless contract arbitrations that make the current federal impasse pale in comparison], right along with the other exorbidant demands for employee "parity"... which is already skewed so far above the private sector that it's an insult to all working Americans.

Now: admittedly there ARE thousands of really worthless federal employees. I'm a retired fed myself [who had to pass that monster 700-series Battery exam to get hired] and at one time it was my job to make sure everybody else did their work... and I was hated for it.

I was called a mean, vicious Supervisor just because I demanded that everybody EARN the paychecks they received... I was just doing MY job. It was nearly a lose-lose situation for me personally: I learned at my Daddy's knee that every man should give an honest days work for an honest days wages, but when those wages are so far above the national mean that some of those people couldn't earn that kind of money even if they worked 24/7/365, it quickly becomes a lost cause. And my integrity was constantly getting me into hot water not only with upper mgmnt but primarily those SOCIALISTIC, all-powerful UNIONS. The stress from fighting them both nearly killed me and I took an early retirement... even though if I had stuck it out for just a few more years, I would've been "set" for life. When I left, my retirement benefits were cut by 2/3. But it was worth it just to escape that snakepit.

As it is, I may only get a small monthly federal pension and my Social Security but as least I still have my self-respect intact!

And Sir, you are absolutely correct: those federal employees whining about empty paychecks are ungrateful Bastards who obviously never gave a damn about their country or their jobs - jobs that are supposed to make this a better nation for ALL citizens. They ARE parasites and all they care about is the money... and never mind that oath they swore to uphold when they were hired... if they took one at all! I did. And I honored it every day I was on the job. I have that to be proud of, too.

Interestingly, one of the branches of government that is MOST affected is the Executive Branch... with the West Wing of the White House itself severely impacted. There is some measure of social justice going on in those offices today as those smugly superior souls have to empty their own trashcans and file their own docs because over 3/4 of the staffing is sitting at home watching it snow outside.

Not to put too fine a point on it.. but who do you think are the BIGGEST supporters of federal unions?

Most of us who work for a living despise gobment workers, especially at the 1040 level. A lot of dry eyes around the nation as the swamp idiots have to figure out how to work for a living for the first time.

The nation as a whole, who makes shit and does shit could care less about government workers. Get a fucking real job leeches.

Yes! Quitting last week because they couldn't pay their bills? I thought federal workers get a paycheck on the 15th of the month and the 30-31st. I'm pretty sure that's when the military receives theirs.

Air traffic controllers are part of the shutdown. So you're saying they should just stay home? Right now they're working with out pay. That would shut down all airports.

I'm a retired federal employee. I've seen lazy employees and hardworking employees....both in the public sector and the private sector. I'm assuming that most of you making these negative comments have never been inside a federal office building. Need I say more.....

I am also very conservative and a Christian. I had to work in offices with portraits of Carter, Clinton, two Bushes, and the obamanation....

Forcing the TSA to go home would be an amazing thing. Sure the roads would be alot more clogged with people forced to drive to their intra-continental destinations, but that's a very good sacrifice for everyone involved.

Where did I say I felt sorry for them? I spent twenty fucking years rooting them out every chance I got. And unless you've been there -and worked under those conditions- you have NO FUCKING IDEA what the pressure can be like to "conform to the norm". Fight it and you're ostracized which is why most of those borderline slackers really give in ... that and the fat paychecks the unions guarantee. And, I'm speaking from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE here, Pal.
