Simply as a point of interest you can clearly see the results of past deformations of LaPalma due to previous volcanic activity.

First, LaPalma is the island, Cumbre Vieja is the name of the volcano and it is whats called a "rift" volcano in that it sits directly on a rift zone where two tectonic plates are always under movement. It is this movement that can cause the severe deformation to the point of collapse of the western flank of the island.

When will the eruption or movement of the plates be severe enough to cause the western slope of the island to fall away? Nobody knows...all scientists say is that it's not a case of if but a case of when.

I'm from there but I live in Madrid at the moment. It won't reach this city, but might reach my relatives living in the canaries.

However, it seems that the island of Tenerife will act as a barrier and protect the island where my relatives live if the worst case scenario occurs.

NOBODY short of God himself can evacuate millions of people from these areas in 6-8 hours...it simply can't be done.

Bottom line, depending on how much falls off the volcano to start, and what the sea bottom is like approaching the USA East Coast, and then the land elevation, the wave will probably not exceed 75 feet and 12 miles inland. The most doomy scientific ones postulate a worst case 300 foot wave and 20 miles inland. I saw one essay saying 40 miles inland with the most terrible wave. (Florida being so unusually low could be worse penetration inland.)

Some folks here are getting needlessly worried. You need to worry about your water source, disease, and electric source, and what will be gone and what won't. If you have a decent set of preps to last 6 months and are at least 40 miles in- probably 20 is fine- you can stay home and guard your place from hordes of refugees and relax for several months before doing anything major.

The rebuilding will be an economic boom to people near the coast but not too near.

The UH-OH area is estimated to be a 500 cubic km., and it's in the half part of where the swarm is located on the map.


The UH-OH area was always at the risk of a landslide in the case of a powerful eruption.


The more the quakes are moving away from the UH-OH area (which means lava is rising on a path away from UH-OH area but STILL an area connected or in proximity of UH-OH area) to MORE land is at risk at ADDING to the UH-OH land mass.

I’m originally from the island of fuerteventura, and have been to la palma many times in my youth. Thanks for keeping us updated op, hopefully everyone is ready for what could happen.

So if you have mass casualties, especially on east cost (majority are vaccinated), decomposition would not cause an epidemic on survivors?
Imagine 7-10 millions dead, can you even grasp bacteria levels?
