Yeah, that is very unsettling in many ways since historically various experts and authorities in different fields have said there was a sliver of a chance of east coast being in a tsunami situation. Depending on size of wave and amount of water being pushed, NC's OBX will be like front tackle line but then energy of water moves across the big Albemarle Sound and pushes up all rivers, creeks, etc. Folks inland living on/near waterways need to factor in rising water and the backwash of debris once water reverses proper course to empty back down east. Still going to need a travel plan. Suggest nearest interstate towards the TN mountains. PS to beeches. I think I need to learn your posting trick. lol OK, for those in the know (i.e., tracking this doom real time) BEFORE official EBS alerts go off need to hightail it inland via major traffic corridors before they become parking lots. Goal is to get west of I-95. Anyone near nuke plant at southern end of NC coast needs to be GTHO w/ the thoughts of not being able to get back home to salvage whatever is left. Been posted before several times but it's imperative to get an old fashion printed atlas. Doesn't hurt to have county maps to use the country back roads. Once official alerts go out, I would think both Carolinas would implement their hurricane evac plans of reversing all major traffic corridors (like I-40, 795 64/264). Time to say goodbye for volcano-thank you for all support :) In the interest of preparedness concerning the cities along the East coast, where would be the best places to go to get to high ground in a timely manner? Quoting: I_Object! New York metro: There's the Pocono Mts (seems a good choice with major hwy to get to it), Catskills(seems too close to coast) and Adirondacks (seems too far to try to get to) For these areas ???: Miami/Jacksonville: Boston Washington, D.C. Virginia Beach Atlanta/Savannah The Gulf region of FL, AL, LA, TX In Alabama, considering the coastal areas which lie at a range of around 10-30 feet above sea level and Mobile Bay and delta areas, which are pretty low lying land areas, I’d say if it were possible, try to get to Mt. Cheaha area. It’s about 4-5 hours north of the Gulf Coast area and is around 1200-1500 feet above sea level. You may not have to drive that far, to get to higher ground, but you’d need to take into consideration all of the rivers in your area and try to get away from those. GLPers should have a pretty good advanced warning and can feasibly make that trek, in the amount of time it would take for the tsunami to reach the Gulf, if you have your plan in place. If anyone else from Alabama can chime in and give a closer point to get to than Cheaha, that would be great! Any suggestions for where folks in New Orleans should plan to evacuate to? Head North and West, maybe to the NW part of the state. Get away from the Mississippi River and the smaller rivers on the Northshore. No one knows how this would affect the Mississippi River, but I have a bad feeling about that. This!! A thousand times this! Totally agree, NOLAngel.
