Ok...north east US at 3:30 the Sun was so bright it HURT to glance at it with sunglasses on!

We stopped the car and by putting 2 pair of sunglasses together and looking through tinted auto glass we could only glance at the sun for one second and it HURT!

Also the sun looked HUGE! White bright and painful!

I'm reading other reports about the sun shining really brightly. It's overcast here today.

In another thread someone mentioned getting a torching helmet (pooh, senior moment for the exact word) to look at the sun.

It's weird that this thread is up today. I have lived in the Denver metro area since 1986 (26 years), and every year before this one, just before the winter solstice (about December 21st), which is supposedly the shortest day of the year, I have had to turn my car lights on at 4:15 (about). Two days ago, at about 4:45, it was still light enough to see the color of vehciles blocks away!

I know there is a lot of talk about the earth's axis shifting and so on -- and usually I pooh-pooh it, but the timing of sunsets is definitely off this month!!

Welding mask.

I'm watching the sun today. I noticed yesterday that it was insanely bright when the clouds cleared up here in Virginia. And it did seem like it was still light out at around 530 when I dropped my father off at his house. So we'll see what today brings. Google has the sunset listed as 4:52PM today here. 4:35 now and it's still light out, but you can tell it will be dark within the hour.

I am at work so I can't do this but maybe a fellow GLP'er can help. The sun is suppose to set in Key West Florida at 5:43 pm. I live in Illinois and when I looked it up I don't know if that time was eastern or central.

I live in Illinois thousand miles away so I can't be there nor expecting anyone to go there but what Key West does offer is a bunch of sunset web cams. Watch the sunset online.

[link to www.fla-keys.com]

Here is one I found, maybe someone can take a look when the time is near and mark the time the sun set. This would be good cause I see post where people think it is affecting the southern states more then the north. Key West is as far south as you can get in this country.

Like I said I would do it but I am at work and don't have correct software on my computer to do this. Any help would be great if not I will do it tomorrow.

I have a perfect vantage point here on the 48th floor of an office building in Houston Texas. Sunset is at 5:25pm. Now is this when the sun is longer visible or just level with the horizon? I will post my observations

Ok here my sunset was to be right now at 4:38 and it is not dark...it is still light out. If it were not for the clouds it would be very light.

Right now it is 2 min past the listed time for sunset and I can see clearly for a mile.

Where I live sunset is supposed to be 4:44pm today. It's 1:40pm now. I will have a video camera and the cell phone (to how exact time) and determine if the sun is off. No "it's still twighlighty out" or it is still bright out.

I will record when the sun drops below the horizon and report back.

Its not a matter of when the bright lil circle drops behind whatever. The sun is getting more and more intense for whatever reason. That's why people are reporting it remaining lighter longer.

Remember being 500 feet up that will certainly give the illusion that the sun is setting a little later than if you were standing ground level.

By how much...I havent got a clue. But my guess is not by much.

Actually, most of what people are "reporting" is that there is still light in the sky 30-60 minutes after sunset and erroneously thinking that is something new or unusual.

Here in Tennessee, the legal shooting hours end 30 minutes after sunset.
If you shoot a deer after that, be ready for the game wardens to come a-looking.
They will want to check the deer's eyes.

Everything seems pretty normal here in UK. Apart from the weather being slightly warmer than usual, everything is fine.

I'll have to check tomorrow evening, I'll definitely post on here if anything strange happens on this side of the planet.

You people do realize that it doesn't get dark exactly at the moment the sun sets, right? There is a period after sunset (and before sunrise) called "twilight" during which you have the transition from the light of day to the dark of night (or vice versa).

This is where the circle-jerk usually begins.

OK, little boys.. talk amongst yourselves.
Tell each other how astute you are...
and how stupid the average Joe is.

We'll take a break to get our eyes checked..
and maybe a brain-scan, if there is time.

 Quoting: Waterbug

The circle-jerk began on page one. Nobody cared to wade in to this morass of stupidity until some idiots started making specific claims of fact like that the moon or Earth are abnormally tilted. Fact is-they are not abnormally tilted and there is no solid evidence they are.
 Quoting: Menow 18943200

Then why is it so important to you fuckers, that you must debunk every single thread which mentions it..?
Nothing better to do....?
Just making some extra pocket-change..?
Over-compensating for a teeny-weeny..?

What is it..?

Hmm..?
 Quoting: Waterbug

It is every single thread. They don't miss any off them. They must have alarms on their computors cause I have seen them show up at 3am in their time zones to debunk shit.

Then they just can't comment and move on. They inhabit the thread and stay as long as it takes. Days even until the thread gets buried because they have thrashed it.

When they go out of their way like this it really makes you wonder whats at stake over this. Sure they are getting paided but obviously they would get fired if they even have one fail if they can't get the thread to fail.

Their behavior just makes everybody more curious and makes them watch more because soon as you tell people no they want to know why. As if were going to takr these guys whom we don't even know their words for anything.
