People keep going on about clouds but the sunset was in fact late here and the twilight lasted longer than it should have and there was not a single effing cloud in site here. So that theory just doesn't stand in my opnion.

Your method of measuring that "the twilight lasted longer than it should have" was what again?

Normally I just read post here. I came across this thread yesterday and found it very interesting because I had noticed the same thing happening. At a time when the daylight should be less until the winter solstice, I noticed last week it seemed the daylight was getting longer, if only by a couple of minutes but it was. So I paid attention last night. The sun set about 15 minutes later than what it should have AND the civil twilight lasted until 6:15 pm. Here is when it should have ended.

At 530 it was "almost" dark on side of sky where sun had set there was still some light. So I personally feel there is something "not right"

That's how it was here too. The sun should have set at 4:47 here but its still bright like its 10am and its 5pm.

Twilight on Mars is longer than on Earth, lasting for up to two hours before sunrise or after sunset. Dust high in the atmosphere scatters light to the night side of the planet. Similar twilights are seen on Earth following major volcanic eruptions.

Re: The Sun Was Supposed To Set At 4:41 Central Time In Missouri, 12/18 , Still Hasn't Set At 5:01
Ok here is what I have personally observed the past several days after recognizing the recent posts about this. I am located in southeastern Michigan. Every night I get out of work at 5:30 EST. A co-worker drops me off at home 3-4 nights a week. I arrive promply at 5:45 in my driveway, every time she drops me off. About 3-4 weeks ago she made a comment, "Wow, your house is so dark." I told her I know, I usually turn my porch lights on as soon as I get home because it is very dark here. When she made that comment I recalled vividly that is was DARK DARK out and clear out. Just 2 weeks ago I commented to her this time "man my house really is dark without the lights on huh?". There was no twilight left at all, and with my porch lights off it made my home outline and yard very dark, and difficult to see. Now, today rolls around and the same routine... pulled in at 5:45. Immediately as I was getting ready to exit the car I said wow thats weird. It was definitely still twilight out... not much though. But noticeably lighter, enough to where I could see the outline of my house against the sky very easily, and I noticed that finding my keyhole was much easier than weeks prior. Usually I fumble with getting the key to fit, my porch overhang really gets dark underneath. So, YES the evening sky has began to lighten up already. Very strange seeing how it should be continuing to darken at least until tomorrow. And I have already ruled out overcast/clear skys for a possible reasoning for the early lightening, it was always crystal clear and cold out the nights it was dark when I arrived home. I might have noticed this earlier this week, however the skys HAVE been overcast all week, the skies finally cleared up this afternoon allowing me to notice I think. This might be something to really pay attention to here.

They have managed to make people doubt their
own observations, in the past.

This group is a little different..

People KNOW when the sun sets earlier and later than it should. I for one, don't need irrefutable proof. If people are saying they notice it happening, it's probably happening.

The inuit have been noticing this for years.

Even in Greenland, the sun came up two DAYS earlier than usual a couple years ago, and know what the debunkers said? They said "Oh, a glacier just melted, thus allowing people to see the sun 2 days earlier."

NOT!

I grew up in Nebraska, where it got dark in the winter before 5pm. So, I too, like the OP, would notice if it was getting dark at the wrong time. Obviously, something is up.

I'm now in Arizona and I have only lived here 10 years, not long enough to really feel like a local yet, and because I'm further south and west, the sun sets at different times than where I grew up... but a couple weeks ago, I was having lunch outside with a friend and felt that that light at 1:30 pm, felt more like the winter light at 4pm.

I didn't say anything to my friend, but I felt it wasn't natural.

Also, for all the "debunkers" who are on here demanding irrefutable proof in the name of science, well, I AM a scientist (I have a BS and an advanced degree) and the first thing you learn as a scientist is that all science is based first upon observation.

Without observations first being made, there can be no hypotheses, experiments, or theories.

I hate it when closed-minded jerks get on forums and start talking about observation isn't real science. YES it is.

Also, one more thing, a REAL scientist ALWAYS keeps an open mind, and if evidence comes forth that might suggest what he has always believed to be untrue, a real scientist doesn't sweep the observation under the rug. Only cowards who are afraid of the status quo being upset, or people who are at risk of losing something if the status quo is upset, bury evidence.

REAL scientists alway keep an open mind. ALWAYS. Even if it means their world may be turned upside down.

Re: The Sun Was Supposed To Set At 4:41 Central Time In Missouri, 12/18 , Still Hasn't Set At 5:01
People KNOW when the sun sets earlier and later than it should. I for one, don't need irrefutable proof. If people are saying they notice it happening, it's probably happening.

The inuit have been noticing this for years.

And this is why some of us try to intervene in this nonsense. It's because someone posts something stupidly false on the internet, maybe just guessing, and then others begin repeating it as if it was known fact, like the above. "The Inuit" have done no such thing.

Even in Greenland, the sun came up two DAYS earlier than usual a couple years ago, and know what the debunkers said? They said "Oh, a glacier just melted, thus allowing people to see the sun 2 days earlier."

Wrong. That is not the reason for that phenomenon, and again you are repeating something which is false. It is caused by what is known as the Novaya Zemlya effect which was noted to have made the sun SEEM to rise as much as 2 WEEKS early some centuries ago.

Why don't you park your feelings and take some real measurements of this alleged phenomenon? You'll be famous for documenting it!
