Well, if you don't have a dog you probably aren't looking at the dog treats.

Aha! Yes, I do have two, mentioned many times but might be before you became regular.

So how was the bean price, pray tell. Pat on the back or look around more next time?

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
Well, that's the point to an experiment. I guess that I can be the guinea pig and find out whether 20 year old beans are worth anything, even if maybe they are rancid. Right (wrong?) place at the right (wrong?) time kind of experiment. When the ebola scare went up I was busy doing other stuff. My hospital still has an account labelled "Ebola Supplies". I suggested "Emergent Threats" but nobody ever listens to me. Even though we had been through bird flu threats.
 Quoting: Lowkey Cyberpunk

Experiments are great! Without them we would have no lights, no telephones - amazing stuff, experiments!

Regarding your mung beans, I wish so very much that I could have seeds for sprouting - that's a prepper's best friend! Anyone here not having pounds and pounds is missing a delicious bet and incredible nutritional quality. Because I have lupus, I must not eat them, something to do with cytokines, I think. Anyway, my close friend, a PhD with more knowledge about lupus than any large group of rheumatologists, whose first wife passed away due to lupus, says no sprouts so no sprouts it is.

I think you are so very right about the label Emergent Threats. It only makes sense. Silly people. I suspect they will wish they had so labeled it before long.

I don't have any way of sealing beans in pkgs at this time - no containers, no sealing thing for plastic bags, no oxygen absorbers, so, into the trunk they go until and unless something comes to hand to do better. And they will be at ambient temperature in the living room, probably a very bad thing. I will try to do something else before winter and heating season.

Beans are one of those things that theoretically last forever but in practice need more and more boiling before they are edible. Now that I recall I have some beans in a bucket in the garage that are 20 years old. Time for an experiment.
 Quoting: Lowkey Cyberpunk

What fun! Do let us in on your experiments! Do you have chickens or ducks or other creatures with large appetites? Just in case the experiment is for livestock feed, you understand.

Friend, I can get pintos at $0.59 cents a pound but that that is only because I have searched high and low. And this is for 50 lbs. All other places want something around $1.00 per pound for lesser amounts. I don't think that you did all bad, just look at other places that you haven't been to. There are small places looking to make Walmart look expensive. If you don't already pick up your local equivalent of the "Ad Pad" you should do so. It's a free newspaper that commonly has the local sales flyers included. I pick one up every Sunday to carry to my office for the benefit of my coworkers.

Well... I have a large appetite. Inevitably I will be the victim of such an experiment. No birds or other livestock will be harmed, only the compost pile.

Received the replacement keyboard for my laptop from China yesterday. Installed it today.

What a nightmare. The keyboard is retained by a thin metal plate under the top cover by multiple 'melt points'. I drilled them all out (about 30 of them) and replaced the keyboard.

-----------

Crunch, can't you just get a standard keyboard with a USB adapter & plug it into the laptop?

It's worked on every laptop I've ever tried.

Oh! Oh! Pick me! It's really fricking hard to get a wirelees keyboard to work the way that you want. I have several that I've put into service and non of them seem really worthwhile.

Usb, Bluetooth, whatever. You still need to put thoughts into expression.

So here's a thing. Some years ago, my youngest daughter and I were talking about dog treats.

We had some 'Pupperoni' treats for the dogs. They smelled wonderful. We tried them. UGH!!! They tasted like burnt rubber.

But the dogs love them ???

Yes, that works. I was actually using one for a bit. It is an ergonomics thing, though. Also it was a noisy 'clackety-clack' keyboard. Hard on the nerves LOL.

When I had a laptop, I didn't like the tiny keyboard - even though it was fifteen inches, so I set the laptop on my desk, and used the wireless kbd on the pull=out. Worked the same way when I needed to use a wired kbd.

I'm with you, Crunch, on the clackety-yukkety.

I do receive the local ads, all delivered free to my physical mailbox on Thursdays and I do check out the ones for the stores I know I can go to. Some I don't go because they are too large and don't have riding carts. I don't have means to transport my power chair at this time. When and if my helper returns, I can have him go to other stores, any store in the area, if there is something with a good price.

If a dollar per pound is a normal price, at least in your area, I did wonderfully to get this for not much more than half that price.

Now y'all have me worried about sticking the two big bags in the trunk unopened. I will have to do it anyway, until a way to bag them appears. Sure don't want to lose them. Hurt my pride buying them in the first place! LOL

Beans and rice. BEANS and rice. BEANS!!!

Oh I've done worse :D

I remember a girlfriend about 20 years ago...I told her "lets go out & feed the geese"...I grabbed a 5 lb sack of cracked corn.

We go outside & a flock of canadian geese (about 60) see us (and the corn) & start waddeling towards us.

I hand my gf the sack of corn & ask "could you hold this for a sec"?

I step away & poof...she is completely surrounded :D

She says "aaahhhhh, they're stepping on my feet"!

If you take a look at this, you will understand why I say it is necessary to stay indoors during civil unrest, the start of martial law, anything going on in the streets. Please be prepared to do so, whether you have to do without something you had not yet purchased, whether anything. Better to do without something, than to be beaten or even shot. You might not get home again if you go out.

We still have time right now to finish our preparedness - let's get it done!

Oops - this was an Edit: Some are saying the Vz situation is leading us into WWIII. If you are following that thread, you already know. If not - Russia and the US are nose to nose with very unhappy expressions, if you get my meaning. And that doesn't include China, which is likely joining with Russia on this issue.

Just be thoughtful, and if you are led to acquire more preparations, please do so immediately. We are going to hope and pray that no war starts, but we also need to act as though it will. Make sense?

Half a cup of beans????? This bag will last me til beyond Armageddon! Probably only takes twenty gallons of water to cook that small handful, eh?

BTW - the words "wanting" and "beans" do not go into the same sentence as far as I am concerned. "Needing" or, more likely, "having to eat" would go with beans.

Why aren't the rice and beans cooked together? I'd like to get more mileage out of that water, say half an hour from beans being done.

Nawww get some hot sauce & mash up the beans & make it spanish rice & refried beans.

Or you could use garbonzo beans (chick peas) with garlic & tobasco to make humus.

Or a 9 bean soup is nice also (with spam & pepper)
