Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor | |

Quoting: Pooka We'll also address the issues which may come up about "food stamps" and how to best manage without them, or with reduced amounts, or with partial box of food delivered with partial "food stamps". We address power outage, heating and cooking methods, first aid, we run disaster scenarios to see if we know what to do. This is probably the only prepping thread a person would need right now, whether long-time prepper here to share, or newbie prepper here to learn. Welcome!! Join us and learn and teach and enjoy!! This thread might be a good place for me to put down this idea, OP. While I was sitting on the toilet about ninety minutes ago as of this post I was reading through a Diabetes booklet I have. I was also thinking about the inevitable collapse of American society, and all of Humanity shortly after the collapse of America. I realized that insulin has a definite shelf life. I actually thought the stuff could remain in cold storage for decades and room temperature for months straight. Nope... turns out the stuff is only viable in the best of circumstances for normally less than a month's time. Only the "best of the best" insulin lasts up to close to eighty days in the best of circumstances. This means once the power grid is out, probably for months or years straight, Type 1 Diabetes are going to definitely die within about a month's time. Unless if there are a number of them who happen to have operational generators with the proper maintenance and fuel to last for years or longer and manage to secure a vast amount of insulin all Type 1 Diabetics will die within about a month's time. Type 2 Diabetics on the other hand will have a chance to eat healthier depending on where they're surviving and being willing to eat healthy foodstuff. I could of sworn I heard of a plant in another GLP thread that is a natural form of insulin. If this is true this would be absolutely essential for Type 1 Diabetics to grow as much and often as possible during the later Christian Apocalypse Events. With type 1 diabetes, the pancreas can’t produce insulin. According to the ADA, 1.25 million Americans have this disorder. This is about 5 percent of all diagnosed cases. The ADA estimates that 40,000 people receive a type 1 diagnosis each year in the United States. |

Quoting: Mental Case Might cause you to start to panic. What I do if that happens, is go back to the basics. Your basic NEEDS are Shelter Water Fire Food (in that order). Everything else is a WANT...not a NEED. It helps me to center myself. Fire is not a basic need. Not saying it's not important, but not every situation requires fire to survive. The four basic needs regardless of the situation are: Food Water Shelter Security (to protect the other three) Not necessarily in that order. A lot of people will try to tell you there is a specific order for these items, but the order of importance is actually determined by the exact survival situation you are in. For instance, if you are stuck on a mountain with a winter storm moving in, shelter is imperative. You will die of exposure long before you die of thirst or hunger. However, in the desert, water is your top priority. Don't let yourself fall into the trap of thinking survival is about rigidly checking off step 1, step 2, step 3, etc. True survival requires you to be more flexible and adaptive than that. My mom worked for GSK till about 2012, pretty high level "administrator " She's a boomer n isn't down w all my "crazy" ,"prepping" the end is near shit from me... that said, she has said multiple times that expiration dates r placed on really any/all items we consume to blindly encourage the idea-"shit it expired which =it is deemed yucky n no longer usually even implies it's rotten". According to her a marketing technique to replenish fresh, therefore more "new" products will b bought. Not that they r bad. What they determine as expired in reality lasts FOR YEARS BEYOND THE ROT DATE GIVEN TO U BY THOSE WHO NEED U TO BUY MORE...if it benefits their bottom line,it's safe to assume it's a lie. Cold storage of certain meds also. And if u r unable to accept that, bury ur cool storage deep enough in containers to maintain a certain temperature. This was well known in medical facilities when I was a nurse cooberating her statements. We left insulin , iv suspensions, OUT for shifts on end, days on end, w no danger to patients, warnings weren't even on the labels. Use ur instincts to the fullest please- if an old med doesn't pass the "sniff test" (usually a fishy type stank) it's safe to say it's (if anything) it has decreased in potency but not some form of " OMG I need new meds bc the date given on the bottle by the company (who benefits from my purchasing it ) This seems like common sense bc a third party has not likely evaluated these claims. Also to the person worried about hypothyroidism secondary to lack of iodine or a physical problem w absorption, i personally "cured" mine in about four months by taking a very cheap prenatal vitamin containing iodine. $4-$5 in Walmart lasted me over 6wks. When I questioned my MD about this her crazy answer was "u must hav had a virus not traditional hypothyroidism ". Whaa? I said "wow that's novel, sounds like bunk, I think I needed temporary support from a supplement ". She was not happy. Hope that helps n rings true or sensible considering we kno how trustworthy western medicine is in reality. |
