I need something to ruminate over this weekend. :) I have always compared the human mind to a computer... Those that think are active running processes... they serve a purpose. They help keep the gears turning, the hard drives spinning... the operation system running to efficiency... they get jobs done and provide some sort of service... and those that dont think are background clutter... useless, they just take up valuable space/ram... the feed off the system and divert resources from the thinkers... but of course... one can argue another point... to slow the mind and clear it of thought... one has reached peace... true peace... my mind rages a thousand thoughts a second... its maddening at times... if i could slow my mind and not think for just 10 minutes... ahhhh the peace i would know... _______________________ |

You stop thinking, therefore you are a reflection of reality, a mirror. This also is not accurate, as "thinking" is an item of reality to be reflected as well, but this is easier to observe while not lost in your thoughts ~ Sensing the Spheres [link to www.youtube.com] Awakening is where there is No birth, no extinction; It is seeing into the State of Suchness, Absolutely transcending All categories constructed by mind. - Lankavatara Sutra |

This is a translation misunderstanding, mind is not "that place in your head where you think", but rather "where experiences take place", which includes "brain" activities such as thought and "heart" activities such as feelings. Lost in translation, just like "consciousness" (as there are said to be many streams of consciousness that makes up our experience, one for each sense, but the west takes consciousness to be some kind of whole, and so misunderstands) All things return to the one, but the one returns to all things, this distinction is a false distinction As for being a cog in the machine, there is a way out in the core of many religions, if you dare to explore outside of the bounds of what we are taught to believe, and dare to examine all religions objectively in order to see the common ground, to see all of the pieces of the puzzle Last Edited by randomseb on 02/24/2013 03:36 AM ~ Sensing the Spheres [link to www.youtube.com] Awakening is where there is No birth, no extinction; It is seeing into the State of Suchness, Absolutely transcending All categories constructed by mind. - Lankavatara Sutra |

You know you can rant here anytime. But it is sad. We are born into shackles because we came into a society with established right and wrongs/do's and don'ts in which the ones who are making and upholding the rules/laws are the ones who break it the most; with little or no remorse. We do deserve better but clearly we arent willing to fight for it, not yet anyways. One of these days we'll get the snowball rolling, then it's game on. I refuse to have kids because Im not going to damn another soul to hell with no hope. One of these days tho...one of these days... or at least while im still young enough to lend a helping hand |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32900948 Well the worse thing is that the shackles that bind us the most are a result of the world itself, not what people may or may not do. You buy a nice car, and suddenly you are bound in chains wrapped so thick you can barely breathe, got to keep the car nice, clean, got to get fuel, get cash, pay the mechanic, got to worry about not getting it stolen, scratched, got to be focused and not crash, got to watch out for pesky pedestrians, got to deal with the traffic, the speed limits and road cops, other drivers, blah blah blah blah blah. Very thick chains indeed. ~ Sensing the Spheres [link to www.youtube.com] Awakening is where there is No birth, no extinction; It is seeing into the State of Suchness, Absolutely transcending All categories constructed by mind. - Lankavatara Sutra |

While the nature of experience is not at all like a video clip, as in biologically speaking that is not how things work in the way your eyes/ears send information to your brain, it is true that experience, all experience, is a fabrication of your own mind. This is biologically what your brain does, it takes raw sensory data and builds an internal representation, and this representation is all we normally experience. We all feed constantly on the blue pill! Very thick chains indeed. Couldn't agree with you more. And I like how much you go into detail. Most the time when I give a scenario and elaborate a little on it, Im told Im going off on a tangent. Um no...Im a thinker. Keep in mind though many of us have been slowly but surely breaking away at the chains. Many are starting to devalue the material world in such a way, it is obvious to tell who are the ones that are concerned with what others think and are living life based off a cliche operating manual. Its okay though, we know the change doesn't start with them. All we can do is offer advise and smile at those who ignore |

I think i just don't like this term "experience" then. Because whats a dream? What are we doing when we day dream and are actively imagining something different. We can replay a scenario in our heads so many times, that the story begins to change, wether by adding something or forgetting something |
