Re: GLP, who here can actually FIGHT?
I've been in very few fights in my life. Actually I can think of only 3.

First one I was around 14 and some dude provoked me on the street so I asked him if he wanted to fight, which he did. We exchanged a couple of blows and I somehow got some blood on my lip. Then we grappled and ended up in the floor and I ended up on top of the guy threatening him with my fist. I didn't hit him though, I let him go and he came back treacherously and kicked me to the floor before a security guard in the vicinity dispersed us.

Then at 17 years old I was in NYC and 3 black dudes tried to mug me. I exchanged some unsuccessful punches and defended well but when I was leaving they came from behind and tried to strangulate me. I dropped whatever I had on my pockets and saved my life.

Then when I was around 25 some dude spit at me on my job so I grabbed an iron bar and kicked him to the ground as he was making his way out, then when he stood up I grabbed his glasses and broke them in his face. His tall buddies tried to come at me but I swung the iron bar and hurt his hand. They were off duty cops, they threatened me but after all they left and nothing happened.

I also protected some tourists from being violently mugged by gypsies on the subway. I pushed the gypsies out of the subway but there were more inside and they came for me. I adopted a defensive stance and prompted them to come at me, but they chickened out. Then some security guards came and apprehended them. I had a blade at that time too and I thought I would have to use it, but at the end I didn't even get into any fighting.

Nowadays I carry a fox karambit blade which is legal over here, folks better think it twice about messing with me.

Other than that I did some taekwondo when I was a kid and some box sparring with buddies on the gym (learned to take some punches well). I loved boxing but unfortunately I have some breathing problems and get tired and thirsty too quick, so that made me frustrated and I left it. I still miss those sparrings. Also did a bit of muay thai but the school was too exigent and my shape didn't tolerate it.

sounds like you are more cutout for judo/ju-jitsu/aikido.
If stamina is your problem use your opponents against him.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16069571

Nowadays I don't go looking for trouble and I will make all efforts to avoid trouble, but if folks want trouble I won't bother myself with street fighting, I have my karambit to take care of business and have no problem with using it (do you know that blade?)

For recreational purposes however, I like boxing more than anything. I really had some good fights against buddies larger and stronger than me. I can really take punches well although I am not so strong with my jabs. Someday I will go back to it.

Over here it's legal as it's not automatic and the length is fine. That's why I bought it. I don't know what would happen if I hurted someone with it though, guess depends on the circumstances.

I'm 57 years old, been practicing shotokan since the age of 6 till now. I'm a trained special forces soldier and served 30 years in the active service, 22 years of which in the combat zone here in southeast asia. Yup, I've been beaten three times in that 51 year-span of practicing unarmed combat. Since that age of 6, I'd say that almost every morning, for at least an hour, I practice my art. How many tournaments? Too many. Can't count any more. How many actual fights? Same. Just too many to remember. Hey! I'm 57 already. How good am I? Not an expert but good enough to survive countless hand-to-hand combat against both muslim and communist terrorists.

Been knocked out cold once in 40odd yrs but made to see stars a few times (from 20 or so fights.) Having knocked a few out using my knees. Love (k)rav maga. Strike fast to vulnerable area's & remove youself from the situation ASAP.

Hate fighting though, I try to avoid confrontation at all times. Even more so now that I seem to be experiencing some unexplained 'energy' issues within myself.

I think it's time to get a consensus of just what kind of men we have here.

Have you ever knocked anybody out?

What's the hardest you've ever been hit and stood standing?

have you practiced any sort of fighting discipline and if so how much success have you had with it.

thanks

was raised in a juvenile hall in the inner city, yes, I got sucker punched by a 6'4 300+ pound black guy when I ruled down my window at a stop light(stupid me) Luckily I had my seat belt and came to while he was trying to pull me out the window. When he reached in to unbucle the belt, I grabbed his forearm and slammed repeatedly down until it snapped and he screamed...I sped away.

yeah you need to have eyes in the back of your head when at a stoplight in the zombie sector. one thing I will say about most black guys is that if they can't take you out with one shot their heart usually dissappears. Not to mention they can't handle punishment worth a piss.

Re: GLP, who here can actually FIGHT?
I have black belts in Shotokan and BJJ and have trained for 25 years. Here are three important lessons I learned:

1. There is always someone tougher than me.
2. It is hard to tell how tough someone is by looking at them.
3. Weapons negate decades of unarmed training instantly.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1340560

best advice on this thread imo.

I feel the same way, although I think after years of fighting being around people that can fight you sort of get a feel for a guy by looking at how he walks/stance, size of calfs/legs/general build, his eyes when he is close up. This can give you a guestimation, but you are right, if he is wearing baggy clothes then it's difficult to tell.
However, what I have learnt is that no-one who is a trained fighter will hardly ever start a fight or be a dickhead(very, very rare imo),so if someone is being a bully or mouthing off being a twat then you can be reasonably sure that he can't street fight.....but then that brings you to number 3....
glad I don't live in the US tbh, I don't like guns or weapons.

Re: GLP, who here can actually FIGHT?
you could say I'm tough, I've taken quite the beating a few times. didn't hurt. never learned how to fight because I decided it wasn't worth spending a whole hell of a lot of time on something I might only use once every few years. I was right, didn't really need it. I don't feel like picking fights so there's another reason I don't need it. also when you think you know how to fight and you don't think twice about getting into one, you don't realize how many others there are that know how to fight, may be a better fighter than you are, and that asshole you got in a fight with hands you your ass. there are ex-military, ex-police, ex- jail guards, boxers, wrestlers, kickboxers, karate dudes, all that walking around and you can't tell one from the other. or the fight may involve some weapons you didn't know about. you don't know how vicious a fight will turn out either. it's wiser to avoid fighting. not because you are a wimp, but because you know how bad someone can get hurt.
