Re: The Sun Was Supposed To Set At 4:41 Central Time In Missouri, 12/18 , Still Hasn't Set At 5:01
It appears that the sunset times are correct but the observed extension of visible light and the extended time needed for artificial light may be due to increased luminosity of the Sun.

So the "illusion" that the Sunset is later is just that but the noted extension of visible light is NOT an illusion but observation of a true anomaly.

So in conclusion the orbital status of the Sun and Earth are correct but the Sun has become so much brighter that the radiated energy is extending or diffusing into the atmosphere far beyond the norm and therefore illuminates the sky well beyond the norm.

So...the Sun may be going into a hyper state of illumination at this time.

If this is the case...look out!

The Sun rose and set right on time here in NY... Nothing out of the ordinary... But the Moon did look weird last night.. that is probably normal too..

Thank you.

(And to Menow, I apologize for calling you stupid because you obviously aren't, but I still think that you are very rude.)

P.s. It is now almost dark in Denver -- and headlight time in Denver tonight -- was, as it was a couple of days ago -- about 4:40-4:45.

I'm currently performing solar astrometry to measure the sun's position precisely to a far great resolution than the human eye... What do you think I'll find, eh suntards?

Well the suns going to be setting here soon so Ill have a look and report back like I did in the AM hours.

Well, believe it or not, I do -- because I used to work at a job where I got off work at 4:00 and it took me a half-hour to get home, so about half-way home, I would have to turn on my lights. And, the reason I remember the time of year so clearly is because it was near Christmas with the holiday lights and also because, to repeat, it is the time of the winter solstice.

Again, I am just asking for a reasonable explanation. Why be so snide?

You people do realize that it doesn't get dark exactly at the moment the sun sets, right? There is a period after sunset (and before sunrise) called "twilight" during which you have the transition from the light of day to the dark of night (or vice versa).
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17989851

Yes, of course, we realize that it is not immediate "lights out" when the sun sets.

However, here in Denver, we cannot see the sun set below the horizon because of the mountain range so I don't know if the timing of the sunset is off or if the sun IS brighter or what, but can anyone explain why THIS year, I am not needing to turn on my headlights until at least 20 minutes later than the same dates in previous years?

I am NOT saying that something weird is occurring -- the explanation might be perfectly natural and no "doom" at all -- but sunset/twilight IS weird this month, so if anyone can explain it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

The fact that you didn't answer my question tells me that you aren't sure. I don't see beyond reality. But I surely pay attention to detail. The answer to this is get off the thread and go look morning and night. If you don't see anything off then quit coming here to prove you know the answer. If you see something off then join the club. But honestly rationality tells me we have nothing to gain here except a headache and wasted time with all this silly banter. Its like people who talk shit on songs they don't like on you tube. Gahhh don't like it it don't listen grow up and stop trying to poop on the party? So to speak.

Re: The Sun Was Supposed To Set At 4:41 Central Time In Missouri, 12/18 , Still Hasn't Set At 5:01
Someone else mentioned it might be due to the aerosols in the air and the light is bending perhaps. It was overcast in St. Louis today, so perhaps it seemed to set on time because there wasn't a hyper-illumination effect? Yesterday it was clear and sunny and set about 25 mins. late.

That sounds rational OP. They are always spraying crap here this year has been one of the worst. I see it all the time.
"Only one candle left to burn now, before the darkness comes"

"Happiness consumes itself like a flame. It cannot burn for ever, it must go out, and the presentiment of its end destroys it at its very peak."

"But what is Hope? Nothing but the paint on the face of Existence; the least touch of truth rubs it off, and then we see what a hollow-cheeked harlot we have got hold of"

And the fact that you are so insulting throws up a huge red flag.

Are you paid for your hostile stance or do you come by it pathologically?

Paid for my hostile stance. Please. If I said anything hostile, please forgive me. Threads that make me waste precious time do bring out the worst.

What, is someone twisting your arm to 'make you waste your precious time' to read this?

sheesh. Some people don't have a firm grasp of reality.
