I also made a mistake before by using a standard camera tripod with a new heavy telephoto lens for my SLR camera to try to measure the offset of Polaris from the north celestial pole. The tripod sagged during the exposure and threw off the measurement by a few arcminutes. I explained my mistake, corrected it by using my telescope with its heavy duty tripod, and fixed the problem.
