Re: Goodbye free health care, hello 30 hour work week
The first step would be tort reform to cut down on medical costs. Before the US was so sue happy band-aids in the ER did not cost $10. This goes for the pharmaceutical co's. too as their costs of litigation make every single medical item price increase.

Next, control the borders. Everyone who pays for their own healthcare, whether it is for insurance or for a Dr. visit or
giving birth, etc. is paying for the illegals, who come to the US and get free heart transplants. Before you yell at me for being cruel, Mexico is welcome to pay for them, but they don't.

Instead of having state to state healthcare, why don't we go to a tri-care like system, overseeing costs and managing care?

Next, tax based on purchasing and not on income. It's too easy to go underground. If a drug dealer buys a yacht, he will pay his fair share of income taxes through the sale. Poor middle class shmucks won't have to deal with 1099's and filing taxes. Also, our infinite, beautiful USA with our tourist dollars will draw $$ from foreigners to help pay for the infrastructure (Like UK).

I saw a TV show from Great Britain... like Undercover Boss where the CEO of a ferry co. went undercover to find out what was wrong with his customer service. I learned watching it that most employees only work 30 hours per week and to work full time they sign up on a waiting list and can be there for years. Meanwhile, the company hired Philipino staff at half the price of minimum wage. The British unions fought it but lost because the cost of doing business paying union wages would have pushed the business too far into the red and the gov't would receive NO compensation as opposed to LESS compensation if they stay in business and hire outside. This is what has cause the US to quit producing: Unions. Much like the dinosaur, the beast will not evolve, so it will die.

I had a glitch with my health insurance via my employer who dropped the ball on coverage. Luckily, I had temporary insurance paid for by myself during the gap. Long story short, when the temporary insurance ran out, I had to pay all the bills of a medical emergency which turned into a long term, therapy, procedures, etc. thing. It took all of my savings. If I had been an illegal, it would have all been free. That is not right. Illegals get more benefits than citizens.

This economy has about sucked me dry. Wages have not increased since about 2001 but the cost of living has doubled. If you can find a job, that is.

It's funny how short sighted people are.

Companies aren't going to pay this bill. They will just lower the hours of employees under the limit so they are exempt from Obama's slacker tax. We will become a part time nation which will probably be the death blow to our economy. 30 hours a week max as an employee. If you want 40 hours a week you'll have to juggle two jobs.

It's gonna be hilarious. As a business owner I am definitely going underground. All my employees are going to 30 hours. Screw it. I'll dissolve my company before I pay that commie shit. And most business owners I know feel the same.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18380503

Yes indeed.

Today I will be firing 12 employees. Damn shame, they are all very good, but the profit margin on my business after Obamacare doesn't allow me to be charitable.

Unlike Obama, affirmative action doesn't hand me everything I want.

So, goodbye America. I quit. No more business, no more production, no more paying taxes.

Gimme my Obamaphone, and then fuck off and die.

Its mandatory here for a employee to work min 48 hours/week (IT sector)... shocked 30 hrs a week is unimaginable ... good luck

Not mandatory here. I can have all part time employees if I choose. If they try to change that I will just fire everyone and close shop. Or move my business to the Bahamas.

I am not alone in this thinking.

Let's be honest, you'll never go to 30 hours a week per employee, you'd never make any money. I know, cause I use to own a business myself! Unless you're sending jobs to China to save on labor, good luck with that. It's time to end the scare tactics.

I worked for a major retail chain and this past June all employees except the manager and assistant manager (myself)were cut down to 10 - 15 hours per week and we were told to hire 8 - 10 more people.

Also we used to hire at $9 - $10 per hour and we were told to to only offer minimum wage to all new hires regardless of experience.

Most employees quit because it was no longer worth their time to come to work at a place for only 10 hours per week.

Thankfully I no longer work for this company but I do see this trend in other businesses as well.

Read it your self. This is structured so that after a "few" years the fines companies would pay are LESS than the costs to insure their employees.

I run my business without employees. I hire independent contractors(IC) and "sell" them the merchandise the deliver to my contracted customers. As payment for product I accept the invoices they generate at point of sale. The difference between what I charge my IC for merchandise and the invoice cost given my contracted customers becomes their "gross pay." I refer to this amount as "reimbursement for overpayment." It is on the checks for all 43 of my IC's.
 Quoting: IIIIIth

You are correct, this will be the model moving forward for me too. I run 45 employees and 15 contractors in the technology services area. I will be moving to less employees and more contractors because of all the government forms and taxes you have to do for employees.

When you are a contractor in IT consulting, you are 1099 and own everything. income tax and healthcare.

Makes my bookkeeping cleaner.

And, when a project ends. I don't have to carry them on the bench either. Cut.

verycool
 Quoting: TripleH

IT is one of the few areas that you can get away with that...Big Brother is very strict about who can and cannot be a 1099. Believe me, we've gotten in big trouble trying to list a 1099 when they should have been W-2.
 Quoting: Beezy

We need 1099, because of all the H1's that are coming. We can pay them cheaper. Let's taxes to pay on these slaves.

This will be the new norm until EVERYONE is at minimal wage.

Obama's 're-election' is an attempt by the have-nots to rob the few of those that have something. Just like Obama said in his book, he believes in 100% income tax. America is lost. It is done. There is no way to educate the sleeping masses on what they have done. They will never see it being blinded by their undeserved self-righteousness. Like a gargantuan union, uneducated Americans have unwittingly cut their own throats.

Money does not come out of nowhere. Wealth is the heat generated by industrious people. The more industry and the more people working means more wealth to go around. 20,000 corporations leave the US every month. Where will the money come from? Who will generate the wealth and productivity? Somebody ease answer. We have 300 million people in this country. Where will the money come from if companies leave and EVERYONE is subsidized. Do you actually think the government pool is inexhaustable?

Most of you should prepare to go without. Before long it will be difficult for you to feed your families.

Darlin ' we have been headed in that direction way before Obama. It was under Bush that the WH provided business with reducing hours and doing it in a manner which allowed for them not to have to pay overtime. Health care that has been provided was not ever free as you describe it, it was part of a package, agreed to between employers and employees

It was BIG business that designed the health care plan that passed. They wanted it. Look it up.

It means fire 1 full time employee to hire 2 part time employees to dodge the Obama health care.

End result, job creation numbers skyrocket. Obama uses these numbers to prove he is doing his job well.

But in reality, there is NO job creation. Only reallocating work.

Basically forcing the middle class to sacrifice some hours (money) for those who are unemployed.

It is out right theft of the middle class income.

That is the german success model my friends.

Work full time for a job you can not live from.
Get the rest of the money from the state.

And the state will just lend it from the banks.

Who will create it out of thin air.

Good for export industry as wages drop.

Good for big-box discount retail (you will not be able to buy anything else than the cheapest crap available)

Good for the banks to keep the Ponzi going.

Good for politicians as they can show that the number of jobless people got lower and economy (inflated by Ponzi money) actually grew !

Good for stocks !

Oh .. there are people for whom this model sucks, get over it, they do not care about you and me anyway.
