You may certainly venerate Jesus, and in that way Jesus is "always with us." Jesus was a first century rabbi. He was a very good man, maybe the best, because he taught us how to love.

He was mortal, just as we all are. Why make him into a supernatural being? No need at all to mock a God if a God doesn't exist except in the minds of true believers. Don't wait around for a "return" or count on some everlasting life. What if you're wrong? Live this one life in the best way possible.

If you read up on early christian history, you will see that jesus actually started out as a supernatural being and only became human once the gospels come into play.

Your second question is that answer to your first. It's not a state secret. The information is out there for anyone who wants to investigate. In the earliest writings, including the epistles, Christ is not portrayed as a historical being. But once the gospels gain ground, that story was read into the epistles, just like it is now. But taken on their own, Jesus of Nazareth isn't there.
