The word “remain” means be left behind, survive. These are those who survive bodily until Christ comes back. No Christian will leave until God wants them to leave. None of us can stay here if God wants us to go and none of us can go if God wants us to stay.

The second component God uniquely revealed to Paul was the Rapture. The idea that the Messiah would come to earth and raise the dead saints of Israel in the Old Testament was not unique to New Testament Christians. However, the idea of a Rapture was unique because there is no hint of this concept from Genesis to Malachi.
The word “coming” means a presence. It comes from two words: with and being. The coming of the Lord will be the time He will be with us. He will arrive and we will stand in His presence. Paul uses this term for His presence in contrast to His bodily absence.
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling…” (Philippians 2:12).
When the New Testament uses “presence” for the Rapture of the church, it signifies not merely the momentary coming of Christ, but His presence until He manifests Himself to the world. It is a reference to His advent, arrival. Jesus at that time will be at hand in person.
There are three Greek words for Christ’s coming. The New Testament uses both terms for the Rapture and for the Second Coming (when He comes to earth on the Mount of Olives). Only the context can determine whether it is the Rapture or Second Coming.
There is an important distinction between the Rapture and the Second Coming. The Rapture is a private coming for the church, whereas the Second Coming is a public coming where every eye will see Him. The Rapture is for the church only. In the Rapture, Jesus will come in the clouds to catch away the church. The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit is no longer in the church. At the Rapture, God changes the believer’s body into a body like the resurrected body of Christ. In the Second Coming, Jesus will come to earth to establish His millennial kingdom on earth (Zechariah 14:1-4). Satan no longer is loose on earth. At the Second Coming, the desert will blossom like the rose.

Application:
The blessed future of the church is the Rapture. The church will not enter the Tribulation.

I have developed an extensive set of proofs the refute this very comfortable theory. Boy are you in for a big surprise.

It amazes me that some folks write to me, questioning the validity of the rapture, simply because the word "rapture" doesn't appear in the Bible.

With 1 Thes 4:16-18 giving us such a clear description of the rapture, you would have to conclude that some people are just playing games with the Word of God. I could change the name of my site to "Catching Up Ready" to satisfy these folks, but I hardly think that would improve things.

Their logic fails because there are a huge number of words that don't appear in the Bible, including the word "Bible." Because God's Word was originally written in Hebrew and Greek, one could truthfully say that no English words are in the Bible. Let's take a look at 1 Thes 4:16-18 in the original Greek:

I don't see the dead in Christ rising, Jesus descending from heaven, and us meeting Him in the air. So the cynics are right: the word "rapture" is nowhere to be found. All I see is gobbledygook.

For the record, the word "rapture" comes from the Latin word "rapturo," which in turn was a translation of the Greek verb "caught up" found in 1 Thes 4:17. You can call it the pre-trib rapture, the pre-trib rapturo, or the pre-trib caught up--it's all the same thing.

I interpret the "catching up in to the air" the meeting with Christ as meaning - those who remain after the earth upheavals will be "lifted off" into the SHIPS - The MOTHER SHIPS and given immortality and new bodies . Our brothers will be the ones who have Christ consciousness and the RAPTURE or HARVEST might mean an explosion of our own dormant Christ consciousness as we instantaneously morph into another dimension of time and space... Namaste.

13. The church is not appointed to wrath (Rom. 5:9: 1 Thess. 1:9-10; 5:9). The church therefore cannot enter "the great day of their wrath" (Rev. 6:17).

14. The church will not be overtaken by the day of the Lord (1 Thess. 5:1-9, which includes the Tribulation.

15. The possibility of a believer escaping the Tribulation is mentioned in Luke 21:36.

16. The church of Philadelphia was promised deliverance from "the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth" (Rev. 3:10).

17. It is characteristic of divine dealing to deliver believers before a divine judgment is inflicted on the world as illustrated in the deliverance of Noah, Lot, Rahab, etc. (2 Peter 2:5-9).

18. At the time of the translation of the church, all believers go to the Father's house in heaven (John 14:3) and do not immediately return to the earth after meeting Christ in the air as postribulationists teach.

19. Pretribulationism does not divide the body of Christ at the Rapture on a works principle. The teaching of a partial rapture is based on the false doctrine that the translation of the church is a reward for good works. It is rather a climactic aspect of salvation by grace.

20. The Scriptures clearly teach that all, not part, of the church will be raptured at the coming of Christ for the church (1 Cor. 15:51-52; 1 Thess. 4:17).

21. As opposed to a view of a partial rapture, pretribulationism is founded on the definite teaching of Scripture that the death of Christ frees from all condemnation.

22. The godly remnant of the Tribulation are pictured as Israelites, not members of the church as maintained by the posttribulationists.

23. The pretribulational view, as opposed to posttribulationism, does not confuse general terms like elect and saints, which apply to the saved of all ages, with specific terms like church and those in Christ, which refer to believers of this age only.

Doctrine of Imminency
24. The pretribulational interpretation teaches that the coming of Christ is actually imminent.

25. The exhortation to be comforted by the coming of the Lord (1 Thess. 4:18) is very significant in the pretribulational view and is especially contradicted by most posttribulationists.

26. The exhortation to look for "the glorious appearing" of Christ to His own (Titus 2:13) loses its significance if the Tribulation must intervene first. Believers in that case should look for signs.

27. The exhortation to purify ourselves in view of the Lord's return has most significance if His coming is imminent (1 John 3:2-3).

28. The church is uniformly exhorted to look for the coming of the Lord, while believers in the Tribulation are directed to look for signs.

God wants and expects us to be throughly aware of the times in which we live. To this end, He gave us in His Word many signs to help us recognize the nearness of His promised return. As Christians, we have the privilege of living in this exciting period and seeing the great drama unfold.

Though we have no indication of whom the Antichrist is at this moment in time, we do know that certain "signs" will begin to point toward the end. When Jesus spoke of the signs which would indicate that His return is near, He described the very events that we see happening today. He told us that when we see these things begin to come to pass we should look up and lift up our heads, for our redemption is getting close. This paper reviews some of these events spoken of in the Word of God. Though many would conclude and define some of these events as being disastrous, we, in the Church, should view them as signs of hope.

Before we look forward, we must first look back. Let us begin by looking into the Old Testament at the fulfillment of prophecies of the past, and the promises of that which is yet to come.

In Daniel 9:24 Gabriel declared, Seventy weeks (seventy 7 year periods) have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place. Gabriel went on to say that, from the time of the commandment to restore and rebuild Jerusalem to the coming of the Messiah would be 7 sevens and 62 sevens for a total of 69 sevens. Each 7 represents a 7 year period that totals 483 years.

This time table is based on the Babylonian calendar of 360 days per year, thus 483 years would be a total of 173,880 days. On March 14' 445 BC, King Artaxerxes of Persia gave the command to Nehemiah to restore and rebuild Jerusalem. 173,880 days later brings is to April 16, 32 AD, the exact day when Jesus made his triumphant entry into the city of Jerusalem. The Angel went on to say that the Messiah "shall be cut off, but not for Himself" meaning, without receiving anything for Himself. Continuing Gabriel says, "And the people of the prince who is to come (the Antichrist) shall destroy the city and the sanctuary." The destruction of the city referred to the attack upon Jerusalem under Titus in AD 70. Nero was the prince who ordered the destruction. With the destruction, the Jews were dispersed and we have a remarkable and precise fulfillment of prophecy relating to the first 69 sevens.

Daniel 9 said that there would be 70 weeks till the end of sin and the issuing in of everlasting righteousness. The 70th week of Daniel has not yet been fulfilled. The end of the 70th seven will bring completion of all visions and prophecies, the most Holy place will be anointed, and Jesus will establish Gods eternal, righteous Kingdom. The angel tells Daniel that prior to this, the prince (Antichrist) who is to come will make a covenant with many for one week
(7 year period). In the middle of this 7 year period, he will break the covenant, declare himself God which is the abomination that causes desolation. Daniel 9:27.

The Bible tells us that this prince, the Antichrist, cannot be revealed until " He who hinders is taken out of the way". This hindering force is the power of the Holy Spirit working within the Church. 2 Thessalonians 2:10 , Notice that the Bible says that the Antichrist will come to those who are "unrighteous", those who are "perishing" because they would not receive the truth. No where in scripture is there any mention of the Church being on earth during the unavailing or reign of the Antichrist.


Since the crucifixion, Gods prophetic calendar has stood still. One important 7 year period, the 70th week of Daniel is yet to come. The passing of this 7week (7year) period will complete the whole prophecy of Daniel chapter 9. The Bible tells us that King Jesus will return one day "with" His Church however, before this happens, He is coming "for" His Church. It is important that we keep these two events separate, coming first for His Church, (the rapture) and coming with His Church ( the second coming). (1 Thes. 4)

In 1 Cor. 15:51-52, Paul writes " For the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed". 1 Thes 4:17 Reads, "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an Archangel, and with the trumpet of God and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be (caught up) together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air". The Greek translation to the term "caught up" is harpazo, meaning, to be snatched away with force. The Latin vulgate translation is rapare or raptus, where we get the word rapture.

Concerning the rapture, the Bible says that those believers who have already died will be coming with Jesus when He returns for the rest of us during the rapture. " Those who remain will be "caught up" to meet the Lord in the air.
After the rapture, we will then return with Jesus at the second coming. Jude 14 tells us, " Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousand of His saints". And Jesus promised he would come and receive us unto Himself. 1 Cor. 15:51 tells us this will happen at the last trumpet. This should not be confused with the 7th trumpet mentioned in Rev. 11:15. This trumpet refers to the great tribulation "woe". The trump in 1 Cor. 15 and 1 Thes. 14:6 will sound when the Church is raptured.

In speaking of the rapture, Jesus said "No man knows the day or hour" This is not the case as it relates to His 2nd coming. We are told exactly when that will happen. We will discuss this further later on but first, lets look at the timing of the rapture. There are no unfulfilled signs or prophecies that must take place prior to the rapture. That means the rapture could take place at anytime.

Jesus says in 1 Thes. 5:4 that we are not in darkness that this day should overtake us like a thief. Jesus wants the church to live in the expectancy of His imminent return for His Bride. He wants us to do so for 4 reasons.

1) It gives us urgency to bring the gospel to the world. ( 1 John 4:35 )
2) It is incentive for pure living. (1 John 3:2)
3) It causes us to look up, to keep our focus on Jesus. (Mat 34:42)
4) It helps us maintain a right attitude of material things, where your heart is, there your treasure will be. (Mat. 12:34)

These 4 incentives are further emphasized in the following parables. Mat. 24:37-38. Here we see Noah as a type of "Jew" represented of the 144,000 in Rev. will survive and be protected in Petra during the great tribulation. In addition, Lot is a type of "Church" as before the great tribulation, who was removed prior to the judgement of Sodom and Gomorrah. In Matthew 42:46 & 25:2-6 we learn of the faithful servant and the 10 virgins. God identifies those who, by faith, escaped the judgement to come and instead, found comfort. Heb 9:28 says to us who are saved, to eagerly wait and watch for Him.

Rev. 4:1 begins with the words "after these things". The Greek translation is metatauta, meaning, after the previous things have transpired, the following will occur. This is the same word used in Rev. 1:19. So, chapter four opens the 3rd section of Rev. Referring to the things that are yet to come. Chapters 2 & 3 refer to the things related to the church. Between chapter 1 & 3, the Church is raptured. The world we leave behind is thrown into a state of sadness, terror and devastation.

In Rev. 5 we see the saints singing a new song, the lyrics read, " you've redeemed (US) by your blood out of every tongue people and nation". Only the Church can sing this song. Some scholars; along with some translations, argue that the song and text should read, " and have redeemed (them or men) to God". However, the vast majority, over 1000 old manuscripts read " redeemed US to God". Since only the Church can sing of the redeeming blood of Jesus, it is clear that the Church is in Heaven prior to Jesus opening the seals on the scroll that issues in the great tribulation.

When speaking to His disciples about the great tribulation Jesus said, "watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man". (Luke 21:36). Not everyone who proclaims the name of Jesus is going up in the rapture but only those who are "Ready". The way to salvation is more than a belief in a certain set of facts. The Bible tells us in James 2:19 even the devil believes there is one God. James goes on to say that you are justified by what you do and not faith alone. Jesus made it clear that we are to watch and be ready. Jesus said in John 15:14 that we are his friend if we (DO) as he commands.

So why is there so much confusion and church division concerning the timing of the rapture? Pre-trib, mid-trib and post-trib. The confusion arrives out of the misunderstanding of God's full prophecies concerning the nation of Israel. Israel will go through the great tribulation, this will be the time of Jacobs troubles spoke on of Jeremiah 30:7, the prophet Zechariah said, " And one shall say unto him, what are these wounds in thine hands? Then He shall answer, those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends". Thus the glorious recognition of Jesus as Israel's Messiah is when He comes a 2nd time with His Bride, the Church, after the rapture, to establish His reign upon the earth.

Not all who missed the rapture will be lost. Revelations 7 tells us of a great number in heaven standing before the throne and before the Lamb clothed in white robes and singing. So who are these? Obviously they are not the church because if they were John would have recognized them as such. An elder explains to John " these are the ones that have come out of the great tribulation and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. These are the people who have suffered and endured through the great tribulation.

The rapture of the church will be a late wake up call for a lot of people. The " foolish virgins", those who walk in the flesh and not in the spirit, will be left behind when the bridegroom comes. When the Antichrist orders everyone to receive his mark in order that they might buy and sell, this multitude will refuse this mark and thus be martyred. As scripture reveals, these newly dedicated saints will be those who will be saved as though plucked from a fire.

As the day Christ returns for His church draws near, we must heed the warning Jesus gave us to watch and be ready. (Luke 21:35-36)Those doing the will of God will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air prior to the testing of those who dwell on the earth; meaning, those who refuse to receive and obey Christ prior to the rapture will be left behind to suffer the wrath of God. In 2 Peter 2:6-9 Peter says, " The Lord a knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and to reserve he unjust under punishment for the day of judgement." 1 Thes. 5:9 says that God has not appointed us to wrath. Romans 5:9 were told that "having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him."

Any argument that might be developed to prove the church must endure the great tribulation and experience God wrath must somehow explain when God changed. It would be a change in Gods very nature to subject His children to face the outpouring of His wrath. This belief also gravely minimizes the sacrificial death of Christ on The cross. As previously stated, we do not. Know the day or hour when Christ will return for His church and "catch us up" unto Him, we do know when Christ will return with His church to establish His reign oh the earth.

He also prophesied to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. These have not yet been fulfilled. He went on and prophesied that The Masai would be despised and cut off. This prophesy was fulfilled when Jesus was crucified and thus 69 sevens have been accounted for.

But wait, Gabriel said that 70 sevens were determined upon Israel. The Messiah was cut off after the 69 sevens. Where is the 70 seven? Jesus referred to this prophetic 70th week in Matthew 24 when He speaks of the signs of His coming and the end of e age. In verses 15-17 He said, "Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel, standing in the Holy place, (whoever read let him understand) "then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetops not go down to take anything out of his house." This abomination that triggers the desolation takes place in the middle of the seventieth seven. Daniel speaks of this abomination that causes desolation in chapter 9. "The prince of the people will confirm a convent with many for one week; but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offerings that was reinstated by the Jews. And on the wing of abomination shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate." (9:27).

The fact that the Antichrist makes the covenant for 7 years indicates that it's signed at the beginning of the final 7 year period. According to Daniel 12:11, from that precise day until the return of Jesus with His church in the clouds with great glory, is 1,290 days. Paul says in Colossians 3:4, "When Christ who is our life appears, then you (we who are the church) shall appear with Him in glory".

The church age fits between the 69 and 70th week of Daniels prophecy. The Bible says that when the fullness of the Gentiles has come in, God will then catch up (rapture) the Church to meet Him in the air. Some may argue that the Antichrist must be revealed prior to the rapture, or that the church must go through the great tribulation. This argument lacks sound theology and would encourage, we who are the church, to be watching for the unavailing of the Antichrist or the great tribulation rather then the return of Christ as scripture commands.

Believing that the Lord could come at any moment tends toward diligence and purity. In John John 3:2-3, Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. It is clear the the Lord wants us to be watching and ready for His coming and not watching for the Antichrist to be revealed or the great tribulation to unfold. Mark 13:35-37
Therefore, be on the alert-for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning- in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep. What I say to you I say to all,"Be on the alert!"

Scripture reveals that two events will precede the second coming of Christ.
1) The rapture of the Church
2) The abomination that causes desolation through the great tribulation.

Now, there is a possibility that one other prophecy will be fulfilled before the rapture of the Church. That potential sign is the invasion of Israel by Islamic nations that will attempt to destroy Israel. Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39 describe what is yet to come, a Russian invasion of Israel that will trigger a sequence of events during the final 7 year period and the emergence of the 10 Nation European power. God is going to lead Russia and her alias into Israel for the slaughter. Ezekiel 38:18 It will come about on that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel," declares the Lord GOD, "that My fury will mount up in My anger. In chapter 39 God gives us the details of the overwhelming defeat. He will leave 1/6th of the Russian army and 5/6th will be destroyed.

Today we do know that these nations described in Daniel and Ezekiel have built an alliance around the destruction of Israel. Russia, Syria, Iran and now Egypt, under the control of the Muslim Brotherhood, are joining forces and have armed Hezbollah in Lebanon along with Al Qeda. Since the Yom Kippur war, some 12000 Russian advisors have trained the Iranians in the use of thousands of tanks, planes, and the famous Scud Missiles supplied by the Soviet Union. The Bible says that this will all come to pass at the very end of the last days. Sometime just prior to or during this period when Russia supports these Muslim Nations in their invasion of Israel, the Lord will rapture the church out of the earth and put His spirit on the Nation of Israel. After the defeat of these Muslim Nations, the Antichrist will broker a peace deal between them and Israel. Included in this peace deal is the allowance of Israel to rebuild their temple and institute again the daily prayer and sacrifice. It is interesting to note that the Jews have already prepared the priest robes and the articles used in the temple worship. And they have ready all the materials to rebuild the temple even though they don't see how it could possibly happen.

But after a happy three and a half years, this man, the leader of Europe, the Antichrist, will come into the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem and stop the daily prayers and sacrifices. He will then stand in the holy place, declare himself to be God, and demand to be worshiped as God. In Daniel chapter 12 we read that from the time the daily sacrifices are stopped unto the coming of the Messiah will be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. This will be the exact timing of the second coming of Christ with His Church riding on white horses.

So how do we escape the wrath of God and assure our position with Christ? In John chapter 3, while speaking to Nicodemus about the need for each man to be "born again", Jesus concluded that God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but that through Him the world might be saved. He then told Nicodemus, "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deed were evil" (John 3:18-19)

Disbelief is a moral problem. It's the condition of one who loves darkness so much that they reject the light of truth. I have no intellectual difficulty believing what God says. I would have intellectual difficulty in not believing. To try to explain my existence apart from God would be intellectually difficult. To try to explain the fulfilled prophecies of Scripture presents tremendous intellectual difficulty but believing God? That's not difficult at all.

Paul said, " For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done weather good or bad, knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men" 2 Corinthians 5:10-11. One day, we will give an account unto the Lord of what we have done with the things that He has entrusted to us. The Lord is coming quickly. He's coming with rewards in His hand. He's coming for His bride. Watch and be ready.
