Re: Goodbye free health care, hello 30 hour work week
It's funny how short sighted people are.

Companies aren't going to pay this bill. They will just lower the hours of employees under the limit so they are exempt from Obama's slacker tax. We will become a part time nation which will probably be the death blow to our economy. 30 hours a week max as an employee. If you want 40 hours a week you'll have to juggle two jobs.

It's gonna be hilarious. As a business owner I am definitely going underground. All my employees are going to 30 hours. Screw it. I'll dissolve my company before I pay that commie shit. And most business owners I know feel the same.

Go for it. I want to blame Obama for this mess.

I am so upset that he won. DRATS!!!!!!!

Blame the cheap employers. Why blame the guy who is trying to provide affordable healthcare for you and your family.

Get a clue.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7061022

Actually, I think YOU need to get a clue. You are clearly a sheep and uninformed. It was NEVER Obama's intent to provide affordable healthcare to anyone! That is evident by the law itself and the regulations that are being implemented to carry out the law. Did you read the bill? If you had you would never have made this statement. It will take this country from its knees and put it face down in the mud. We are likely over. This healthcare bill is all about the gov't taking over that huge chunk of the economy and controlling the populace all in one piece of crap legislation. It is all about HUGE government and new taxes, one of which will destroy our struggling real estate market.

That said, the healthcare issue is only one of many. What about the NDAA? What about Solyndra and others like it? What about Benghazi? What about his failure to even attempt a solution at job creation? What about his failure to cut spending? What about his refusal to offer a reasonable budget that even ONE legilator could accept? What about a deficit of $ 1million back to back to back? What about.....and the list goes on. Sorry, as much as I wanted to, this is not a President I can get behind. "Forward" he says----but to where?

I, too, am a business owner. I am a female. I come from abject poverty and I got my education the old fashioned way, I WORKED AND PAID FOR IT--it took me 25 years to pay for it because I got and PAID for a student loan. I invested in and started my own business over 20 years ago.

As a small business owner, I am facing a HUGE increase in taxes and the cost of my overhead is increasing, however my income has changed very little. There may come a time when I just move Forward, close my doors and go for whatever the govt will give me--food stamps, welfare, phone, section 8 housing, etc. But, alas, my mother (yes, I was raised in a single parent household) raised me to be self-sufficient, to pick myself up, stop the whining and do what it takes to take care of myself. We need more mothers like her instead of this Nanny state.

Sorry, didn't mean to get carried away......

Its mandatory here for a employee to work min 48 hours/week (IT sector)... shocked 30 hrs a week is unimaginable ... good luck

Obama will just pass laws to make it nearly impossible to do that. He will pass stiff penalties if that is the game they want to play.

No, I think the people will get pissed off. People want healthcare, and they will resent their employers being cheap.

A lot of people have pre-existing conditions.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18380503

Talk to someone like a tax person and they will tell you that part time people will be counted as well. The hours will be added together and so many will equal a full time person. Just finished talking to my guy about this.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20524828

If you have less than 50 peeps, u don't have to provide healthcare. So tiny business is exempt.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7061022

With the exception of construction companies. I have a family owned construction company with less than 10 employees. We are not exempt and will be closing soon. It is a shame as we were finally starting to get some traction in this economy. I hope we can make it work but it doesn't look good.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24231956

Any one have any idea on the reasoning of not allowing construction companies to be exempt? I find it irritating that I have different rules and am already struggling with the way construction is going in this country. Why is my company looked at differently than yours?

In the last few years I had just grown to the point where it was feasible to start offering different benefits. It is a natural evolution that attracts better quality employees. It used to be something growing businesses sought to do. Now it will be mandatory and we won't get the quality employees.

I believe this is a main point, maybe the main one, of Obama's agenda. You are not able to discriminate in any way shape or form. Did you hear O's victory speech? It was all about how all us Americans are in this together, and he mentioned all the usual special interest groups. He doesn't like people selecting whom they will live with or work with.

You WILL pay and you WILL hire badly educated people from his vulnerable populations. That's what he wants. Hope you can find a way around it.

I am an american who moved to NZ.

I used to pay about $500/mo to cover myself and 2 children on my state provided health insurance (I was a teacher). (state paid half of mine so total cost was $750/mo)

My husband wasn't covered by my insurance at work but would have added $400/mo.

we moved to NZ with socialized medicine.

if you need stitches or have an infected finger, this system rocks!
I pay $20 co pay (higher other places) for a doctor's visit and $3 for prescriptions.

But god forbid something happens to you!!

have a heart attack? go to hospital, stay about 5 ho v urs until stable and then SENT HOME. (it was free but you get what you pay for)

and wait for the referral to the cardiologist. That took 7 weeks to arrive.

the appointment for the heart monitor (not even to see the cardiologist yet) was over a month after the referral letter arrived.

it takes another month to actually see the cardiologist.

hope the heart condition is not serious.

We pay well over 50% of our income in taxes (we have a progressive flat tax here of about 20 up to 70,000 and then 35% over that) and the goods and service tax (on every penny you spend) is 15% (on land, on food, on EVERYTHING)

and yet, to have any kind of healthcare, we need to spend over $200 per month on insurance here

As someone who doesn't live in the U.S,
can you please explain why you don't want free healthcare?
here in N.Z anything goes wrong, accident or disease, and you are treated, easy, free, no problems.

We don't have to pay ridiculous taxes to make it work either.
If it works for us surely the great country of Merica can pull it off?

and we also don't bitch about the 'freeloaders' that make use of this basic human right.

I really get confused at the lack of compassion and empathy from people that like to think of themselves as 'Christian'

First off , Its NOT free. Obamacare is directly punishing the job creators. It wasnt enough that they drove out big business. BIG business got smart and left to avoid a 30% Corporate Tax (highest in the world) I might add. So now they are left with no option but to attack us small business in this country. Tell me then who exactly is going to pay the bills once 80% of small business close shop??
If your seriously trying to restore the middle class , why the hell sink so many of us that are trying to keep this country afloat? Its like cutting your feet off before you begin the marathon. Is 47% of your country "free loaders" like it is over here?

Well just make sure you increase the wage per hour and everything will be OK. You could pay exactly the same amount of weekly salary by doing this conversion. Now 30 hours is not a good number, you must decrease the hours to 24 hours a week. Foe example:

40 hours at $10 per hour = $400 a week
24 hours at $16.67 per hour = $400 a week

24 hours a week is mentally and physically healthy for the people, specially if they have children.
But to be fair if you cut hours you have to increase the wage.
Otherwise the government will crush your company.

Re: Goodbye free health care, hello 30 hour work week
Employers are too cheap.

Papa Johns don't want to charge 15 cents a pizza in order to provide healthcare for their employees.

This is during a time of records corporate profits and huge cash reserves.

They have already been doing this because corporation HATE paying benefits and have always tried to avoid this expense.

This is where you people are wrong. It is NOT the employer's responsibility to provide people 'benefits' or healthcare. THAT is the entire crux of the problem.

You slackers want to the government to tax business to pay for your hypochondriac tendencies. If I have to pay that then I reserve the right to dictate what you eat, how much alcohol you drink, and if you are allowed to smoke.

The entire health benefit enigma is a fraudulent scam. The government can not force this. We will revolt and punish the employees. That's just the way it is. You think you are entitled but you are not. You slackers are dillusional. You think that businesses are an inexhaustible pool of money when in truth most barely get by. Just because the company owner makes a couple dollars does not mean the company is raking in money. And even if the owner reduced his own salary to minimum wage it can never amount to paying healthcare for all the employees. It quite simply will not work.

Even if it could work, the healthcare you would receive would be a nightmare like military style healthcare with death panels and mandatory vaccinations. You people fucked up. Get ready to pay for being greedy.

This is EXACTLY what I have been trying to tell people ever since this nonsense was conceived. FINALLY someone that gets it.

When Obama says "middle class" he means at best what I would call "working class". And he considers everyone "talented" no matter how, um, stupid they are.
