shadasonic User ID: 15732022 United States 08/02/2012 08:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey guys, I am a big follower of this thread although I don't have much knowledge on this topic...I rely on you guys. Quoting: Chic Fil A I posted a thread with a question and a few of you seem extremely knowledgeable about this topic. Please explain the physics of this to me if you understand... Thread: Why does a crescent moon now look like a smile? Thanks!! Hey C F A The reason the moon looks like a smile is because of the light reflection. The position of the moon relative to the sun and the earth determines its phase. The moon orbits around the earth, but isn't in the same plane as the earths orbit - it has vertical motion so it can be above or below. The sun is directly below, causing the smile. This configuration isn't common but it is normal. Its sometimes called a 'birdsnest moon'. Someone hacked my rig, I got a back door intruder, really messed my computer up, got most of it fixed, but still a few problems keep surfacing. So I haven't been on GLP much either. I think the big guns are yet to come this week, so I will stay tuned if possible. The Sun isn't the only big show in town. Too much going on! Hi all you Suntards! And thanks for all the posts! |
