We're now at 1.95E+12 on the energy accumulation chart.

Holy poop...out of the 24 quakes registered so far today, 23 are greater than 2.0...

[link to www.ign.es]

The last 3 days 2.0 and greater have outnumbered quakes under 2.0...that is a new trend. Like I've said from the beginning, Hierro goes in patterns...here we seem to have entered a new one!

A tweet from Raymond Matabosch, a volcanologist who is staying on El Hierro in a tent

A Surtseyan eruption will occur within the next few hours or days. Canarische eilanden, El Hierro Vulkaan. Volgens Raymond Matabosch.

There's not much grey area here...

"A Surtseyan eruption is a type of volcanic eruption that takes place in shallow seas or lakes. It is named after the island of Surtsey off the southern coast of Iceland.[1]

These eruptions are commonly phreatomagmatic eruptions, representing violent explosions caused by rising basaltic or andesitic magma coming into contact with abundant, shallow groundwater or surface water."

Re: Best El Hierro Thread On GLP - Canary Islands - ACTIVITY HAS RETURNED - AGAIN!
We are beginning to see what is perhaps a third "escalon" in built-up of energy levels,

[link to www.01.ign.es]

...which on this chart would seem to have a hypothetical relation to magma pressure.

This could lead to either outright eruption of magma, or more speculation of what it all means.

It was Idgits or someones (scuze me) suggestion that the plateau after the first rise was the filling out a lot of excess compartments, and the second rise was when excess underground capacity was being reached, and the theory that the third rise would lead to above ground rupture of lava, or underwater in a much bigger and probably violent way.

Whether underwater or on the Island the scenarios point to a probability of the more violent types activities because of all the water involved... if there is enough energy driving this all, and the graphs seem to indicate (but not prove) that there is a lot of energy involved here.

...... or there again, maybe new underground spaces will be found by the magma pressure...

... or maybe the deeper geological force that is driving magma upward at this time will change (not likely given the world picture)...

Interesting page on "Island Building" that describes the Surtsean type of volcano...
snip:
Surtseyan typically refers to the water-rich explosive eruption of barely or nearly submerged volcanic vents. Surtseyan eruptions are truly spectacles to behold for their mere violence. These explosions are characterized by tephra jets which are precisely the way they sound: a jet of water-laden ash shoots skyward hundreds of meters like a rocket and then collapses back down due to it’s weight. These eruptions don’t usually produce massive eruption columns because the saturated jets are far to heavy to be carried upward by convecting air currents. The tephra jetting is accompanied by deep rumbling and forms a tephra cone around the vent. Lightning, whirlwinds, and tephra-hail (hail with an interior composed of ash) are common around such eruptions.

My heart goes out to the residents of El Hierro. At the very least, this eruption will turn out to be a local disaster for them. I wish there was a way to get them all to safety.

More updates, photos, and videos. Notice how this image shows a trail of what seems to be holes, and I'm wondering if they are a trail of vents being punched in the side of the island...either way, the situation is extremely dangerous and seems to be very close to the last phase of the eruption (Steam colmuns on land) before it goes surtseyan (boom).

It also seems that with venting on the north and south of the island, at opposite ends of the fault subduction zone now exceeding 11,000 earthquakes (each one de-stabilizing the entire area with magma intrusion) a landslide is MORE likely than we are being led to believe. I think the figure we were given was 1 in a trillion chance ? hmm

Holy hell! That is just scary looking. Looks like a huge rift opening up. Could a large fissure just keep on going?

These people are insane if they stay and wait to see what happens. I sure hope there is ample time should the SHTF.

The true testament about this is that regardless of these new jacuzzis opening up, the pressure is rising, as Idgits pointed out earlier.

As well the tremors are not subsiding:
(can't give you a link as I cannot connect with the IGN server for the data...anyone else have this issue right now?)

So in essence, the release of energy from these jacuzzis is making no difference at all!

drummy, I keep looking at that chart myself and saying the same thing.

By no difference I meant, is not releasing any pressure.

BTW, I was able to connect to the IGN server. Must just be a huge amount of traffic.

Short update on El Hierro volcano eruption
Posted on November 4, 2011 by Jón Frímann
This is a short update on El Hierro volcano eruption. As the situation is changing fast this past few hours.

It seems that the eruption in El Hierro volcano is gaining strength and power. The harmonic tremor on the seismomter that is on the El Hierro Island it self has started to get saturated again. It also have been unconfirmed reports of the south fissure growing in size. But so far nothing has happened in the north part of El Hierro volcano. Even if there have been many earthquakes in that area. But this area fell suspicious silent this morning. So something might be up in that area. Update 1: A string of earthquakes happened around 12:00 UTC in this area. Suggesting that something is still up there.

What happens next is anyone guess. But people need to be aware that fissure eruptions are sometimes long in terms of the length of the fissure. But that phase normally does not last long, as soon the eruption is going to isolate it self into few craters on the fissure. I also recommend that people read Erik Klemetti blog post about El Hierro from yesterday. If you haven’t already done so.

The jacuzzis from one of the posted images appear to form a straight line.

So the volcanic activity is opening a fissure in the ocean floor? And the island may be cracked in half (like an egg) along this fissure--or undergo other, possibly more dramatic changes?

Holy smokes!

(Have a very Happy Birthday, OP, and I hope you are able to get some rest and feel better soon. So sorry to hear that you're ill.)

New recordings of the IGN show amazing. Not just one or two volcanic vents, but a whole series of eruptions has activated themselves. Due to the orientation and length must be opened with a gap - are expected to volcanic eruption or it is already underway. Due to the seismic activity and the still strong tremor there is probably sufficient magma supply to be able to serve many chimneys.

Lets make an analysis here...the current width of the waves on the graph are just about 3 lines out from center.
[link to www.ign.es]

This is approximately the same size of frequncies/waves as when the October 10th eruption occurred in the south of restinga. However...the big difference, as I pointed out yesterday...the big quakes are still rolling through strong. The 10th October eruption nearly stopped all activity for almost a week. Very few, very small quakes continued over the week following it's eruption. This one is not slowing down!
