Update: The explosion hurled a CME into space. NOAA computer models predict the cloud will miss Earth, sailing east of the sun-Earth line. Near-miss effects (such as solar wind plasma shoved toward Earth by the passing CME) might still be observable on Aug. 27th, but no geomagnetic storms are expected.

CHANCE OF STORMS, DOWNGRADED: NOAA analysts have determined that a CME launched by yesterday's "inky explosion" will sail east of the sun-Earth line, missing our planet. Another CME might still deliver a weak blow on Aug. 26-27. Overall, the chance of magnetic storms is less than before, albeit not zero.

Your Dutch combined with German is perfect to understand TB ;-). I remember we had these Dutch commercials with American accents over here. At work there was this American guy doing a presentation for Apple computers in the early 90s. Epic with that accent. Everyone copied that accent for many months to come, lol.

Languages are fascinating, to me at least.
 Quoting: InterMezzo

Oh dear! Major mistake there. We're not going to talk about accents! LOL One of my neighbors grabbed my face with 2 hands and moved my cheeks around! She said I must make my mouth do this...as she scrunched my face....and not like this....as she spread my cheeks out tight! It still makes me laugh to remember.

I have mostly German heritage and we still have distant family that live on what is left of the original family farm. I really wanted to go visit and see the Gasthuis, but I don't speak German and I couldn't find anyone to go with me. When I was in school, it was still illegal to teach and speak German. No one would have done anything about it, the laws were from WW1, but they couldn't find a German teacher until AFTER I had been out of school for several years.
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

lol I could really visualize your neighbor doing that, lol. We got taught German in high school over here. And that was at a time where we didn't have much tv channels to look at (early 70s.) Two Dutch and about five German channels. Me and my brothers always watched Laurel & Hardy clips they would broadcast with German synchronized language on early Friday evenings. They were translated as Dick und Doof. Not sure if Arnie would agree with them doing that to her favorite comedians. tounge

In the 90s I had friends in Temple TX, that I visited a few times and on one vacation we went to New Braunsfeld near San Antonio, a great historic town with a whole German based community. Loved that visit. Also saw the Alamo and went to Dallas to visit the Dallas show set and much more important the Bookstore. Impressive to be walking in that museum and to see all the emotions too with people. One of my most memorable trips.

Nowadays, with about 450 tv channels and social media being English based, German has become a bit obsolete over here in Holland and they have trouble finding teachers because of that. hf

My dear EQ friends. Thank you so, so much for all the birthday wishes. You are simply beautiful and I appreciate all of it.

61... Now for sure kids are going to call me Sir. Like they already didn't that for the past 21 years, lol.

We have a lot going on in society and sometimes in the heat of the battle things boil over. But this thread has always one where we can safely come back to in the knowledge that it is filled with good people. That alone makes it worth coming back every time..

I love you all!

Little man and I spent 5 months in the most amazing DA shelter in the desert. He was only a year old so he doesn’t remember it.

A local German lady would bring food once or twice a week from her German restaurant.

Nom. Nom. Nom.

I miss the food. And not cooking.

Thank you all for the prayers and condolences.

My niece got tested today and is negative. For now. But we'll take all the good news we can get.

Hope and pray Mini's test is negative, too! Keep us posted!

I am heading to bed. Didn't get much good sleep last night. Been reading too much bad news here. Hard to find encouraging news anymore.

Appreciate you guys more than I can say! Y'all are some of the finest people I know! Much love and hugs from W TX!!

C should actually be taken 3-5 times a day and if you are a smoker, after every cigarette if you are fighting off a bug.

Thanks. I'll text her the info. She doesn't smoke, but does take C daily. Don't know how much.

I'm trying to get an update on her friend. As of yesterday she still had a fever. I think I might have her mom's number saved in my phone. If she gets any worse or symptoms become worrying, I'm gonna have to tell her mom about ivermectin. She'll probably think I'm crazy, but I'm willing to take that chance if it would help. And bring them some.

Hey Mezzo - I've got you by 10 years! I can nearly go to sleep nowadays when the sun goes down! lol

My baby brother had a birthday recently. When I wished happy birthday and asked how he is doing, he replied - "Just happy to be alive and kicking!"

I replied "Me too, just not as high and not as fast!"
That about sums up where I am in life - lower and slower!!!

Local news around here has started telling people that ivermectin is bad and not to touch it. So anyone I bring this up to now will likely laugh at me.

Ugh. Just like they laughed at me when I told them about covid before the tv did back at the end of 2019/beginning of 2020. :\
