Plasmons Create Beautiful Full-Color Holograms

By harnessing the power of tiny waves dancing in an electron sea, Japanese physicists have developed a novel way to project holograms that don’t change color when you move your head.

“In a conventional hologram, if you change the angle, the color changes,” said optical physicist Satoshi Kawata of Osaka University in Japan. “Our hologram shows natural color at any angle you observe.”

The researchers’ machine takes advantage of how beams of light trigger waves of activity in free electrons, unattached to any atom, arrayed on a metal surface.

... In a paper published April 8 in Science, Kawata and colleagues describe how they used surface plasmons to reconstruct a faithful, full-color holograph.

... The plasmon-emitted light reconstructs the hologram as a virtual image hovering above the plate.

Kawata admits the device is far from ready for real-world applications; he’s mostly interested in the physics.

“No one has thought to use plasmons for display applications, so it was fun for me,” he said. “I just wanted to demonstrate that this could be done. But I hope people would be interested in thinking seriously to use this technology for larger scale 3-D virtual display,” like for TV or movies.

... This is not the first device to produce 3-D, colored holographs under white light, notes Michael Bove of MIT’s Media Lab, whose research group also debuted an updatable 3-D holographic video earlier this year.

“That said, the physics behind this approach is very interesting,” he said. “The technique looks as if it could offer some advantages in light efficiency and view angle for mass-produced holograms, provided they can figure out how to mass-produce their holograms cheaply.”

Researchers mounted the Maritime Laser Demonstrator, a solid-state laser, aboard the USS Paul Foster, a decommissioned destroyer. Off the central California coast near San Nicholas Island on Wednesday, the laser fired a 15-kilowatt beam at an inflatable motorboat a mile away as both ships moved through the sea. As the above video shows, there was a flash on the boat’s outboard engines, igniting both of them in seconds, and leaving the ship dead in the choppy waters.

All previous tests of the laser have come on land — steady, steady land — aside from an October test of the targeting systems. But for the first time, the Office of Naval Research has proven that its laser can operate in a “no-kidding maritime environment,” says its proud director, Rear Adm. Nevin Carr. ...

The Navy hopes that by the next decade, solid state lasers — which generate powerful beams of light by running electrons through crystals or glass — will be aboard its surface ships, disabling enemy vessels and eventually burning incoming missiles out of the sky. That latter goal will take at least 100 kilowatts of power.

But a beam in the tens of kilowatts, ONR proved this week, is deadly, accurate and, Carr says, “can be operated in existing power levels and cooling levels on ships today.”

Solid state lasers are just the beginning. The Navy’s also working on a much more powerful Free Electron Laser weapon thanks to ONR’s research. That laser works across multiple wavelengths, compensating for debris in the sea air, to cut through 2,000 feet of steel per second once it gets up to megawatt class. Its electron injectors are ahead of schedule and ONR expects it to be ready in the 2020s, though after its solid state cousins are operative

Dark matter could provide heat for starless planets

(PhysOrg.com) -- In a recent paper posted at arXiv.org and submitted to Astrophysical Journal, Dan Hooper and Jason Steffen, physicists at Fermilab in Illinois, present the theory that cold and dark planets, not heated by a star, could be heated by dark matter. In theory, this dark matter could produce habitable planets outside of what is known as a habitable zone.


While no one knows exactly what dark matter is, it is believed to make up about 83 percent of the universe. The most accepted theory is this dark matter is made up of what are called WIMPs, or weakly interacting massive particles.

These WIMPs interact with regular matter by a weak nuclear force and gravity, but they are also antiparticles. When two WIMPs come together, they work to annihilate each other and cause a burst of energy.

Hooper and Steffen suggest that should this dark matter be trapped within a planet’s gravity, the bursts of energy could produce enough to warm the planet. When it comes to Earth, the energy that could be produced is low, but in areas of space where there are high densities of black matter; Hooper and Steffen believe there is the possibility of finding planets that could be warmed in this way.

Amid the human tragedy, tsunami destruction and nuclear crisis in Japan, another story has gone unreported in the densely populated suburbs of Chiba prefecture just east of Tokyo: the liquefaction of hundreds of acres of reclaimed land. We all know that sand castles on the beach do not last against the tide, and neither do sound houses built on foundations of sand.

The possible liquifecation of large segments of bayside property built up since WWII has long been a concern of geologists and disaster agencies in Japan, and has recently been experienced on a large scale in Christchurch where several neighborhoods are expected to be condemned and abandonded.

The link above highlights the personal account of one gaijin literally watching the ground crack around him, and then the ground water bubble above the surface. I've also heard from family in Chiba that numerous sidewalks, roads, and also some housing structures were affected by liquefaction. Using the Japanese term for liquefaction 液状化(eki jou ka, literally change to a liquid state) in the Youtube search box, numerous personal accounts in Japan can be found.

HERE a very well-informed young lady videotapes the liquefaction of the sidewalk in Urayasu, and identifies it as such when you hear here say at 33sec that it's ekijouka and "they say that mud will come out of the ground."

In front of a crowd of daytime shoppers in Shin Urayasu the sidewalks buckle, crack and the earth "bleeds" mud for all to see.

A collimator is a device that narrows a beam of particles or waves. To "narrow" can mean either to cause the directions of motion to become more aligned in a specific direction (i.e. collimated or parallel) or to cause the spatial cross section of the beam to become smaller.

That one especially is of interest MzK. (I've also seen that done using a bowl of rice, a toy soldier and a vibrating platform. Same thing)

Might apply to our NZ friends also, as they have masses of liquefaction(spelling?) after their EQs too.

What really grabs me is that vid really shows different densities. This can be applied in principle to larger and also smaller situations, right down to the sub-atomic level.

Density and dimension is something I often get confused, and I think many others also do.

Forgetting the physical thing shown in the vid, and coming back to the dark ring around Japan, could it go back to Japan being a slightly different density to the rest of the Earth? Vibrating differently, hence artificial to what should be. This is bound in their culture too. A feeling they are different/better than the rest of us. Also that inter cultural mixing is frowned upon.

Could it also be a reason why so many nuclear incidents occur there? Of any nation on Earth, they've had the lot. I am sure Bruce Cathy would clear that up instantly! Nexed, you got anything to add/say to that?

Hi dr, where as we have different ideas on Augie and co, the idea that it can be used to cause vibration to the point of delamination of liquefaction is fascinating. Is that what we saw happening in BeePees vids? Repair of the bed?

Ages ago I had the idea that Augie might be multi dimensional/density, and exist as the same thing across a broad range of existance.

Its sudden appearance at the GoM site I have always believed, was a means of repair. Again, not good for us, but none of our business. Bigger picture here.

This thinking might answer, or start to answer other odd occurances on our planet. Augie types doing things on other levels and densities that manifest here as a spiral in the air, or a whirlpool in the ocean, or what ever. Maybe even multiple densities at work, under repair due to silly things like nuclear detonations and melt downs.

Bruce Cathy says that it is no accident that tests and detonations occur where they do. That said, could the Human types across many densities be trying to effect something with our planet by doing this simultaneously?

"US scientists discovered two giant whirlpools in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Guyana and Suriname. According to Brazilian scientist Guilherme Castellane, the two funnels are approximately 400 kilometers in diameter. Until now, these were not known on Earth. The funnels reportedly exert a strong influence on climate changes that have been registered during the recent years.

"Funnels rotate clockwise. They are moving in the ocean like giant frisbees, two discs thrown into the air. Rotation occurs at a rate of one meter per second, the speed is sufficiently large compared to the speed of oceanic currents, on the border hoppers is a wave-step height of 40 cm," Castellane said.

Even during the dry months, when the movement of oceanic currents and the flow of the Amazon River practically comes to a standstill, the funnels do not disappear. It is an open secret that cold water is thicker and heavier, so it goes down, underneath the masses of warm water, which is lighter. This is the reason why warm currents in the World Ocean always flow closer to the surface, whereas colder currents flow closer to the bottom."

However, such movement of water may not always depend on the difference of temperatures of the water column. The difference in salinity can also be a reason. The mechanism here is the same. The density of saltier water is higher, this water is heavier and it moves closer to the bottom, pushing less saltier water up. This type of vertical fusion occurs frequently in the tropics because high temperatures lead to the evaporation of water from the surface. The salt does not evaporate with water, though. It stays in the ocean, which raises the level of salinity on the upper layer of water. This layer “drowns” and gives way to less saltier waters of the depth. Such vertical movements of water create giant whirlpools.

The whirlpools, tens and even hundreds of kilometers in diameter, may last for months and even years, scientists say. The vertical movement of waters is a slow process, though. Why do those whirlpools exist for such a long time? This is partially the effect of Earth’s magnetic field. In addition, marine water contains many charged ions, Na and Cl for example. To crown it all, water molecules are dipoles that are charged both positively and negatively. Any dipole starts spinning when moving in the magnetic field. An oceanic ring gathers millions of billions of molecules together. That is why the giant circle movement triggered by the vertical movement of water may last for months and years mechanically. Ions also give more power to the craters. Natrium and Chlorum are charged as well, and their movement in the magnetic field of the Earth also leads to the appearance of the circle movement.

Regarding DENSITIES :
Do you remember that image of that "potato shaped Earth" ???
It showed where and how high the gravity was at certain places ... Gravity also affects biology and cultures.

Just wanna point out that the "movings" of the seabed on the BP-vids could have several reasons ...
- messing up the enviroment with corexit and anti-freeze fluids, and as a result the pop-up of gasses and "melted hydrates"
- frakking the ground, or drilling otherwise
- disturbance by other sonic equipments and tools

... it could have had many other triggers and reasons then only an AUgie ;)

I dont believe that AUgie could be or is responsable for the air-spirals. That is more likely becoz of CERN/LHC/HAARP and other newly-experimented boy-toys of TPTB.

Like the article said in my other post, the ocean-spiral can be a natural phenomenon, ... but what if it is also a reaction to the latest boy-toy experiments?

It also could be a natural emergency-thing from mother nature, to try to restore balance again ... so that the salt sinks as it should be doing, and not linguer between layers of different watermixtures (thanks to corexit and other chemicals). Normally in a HEALTHY situation, marine life is naturally stirring up the waters, moving it around so that it stays balanced ... I read that jellyfish are the greatest contribution to that ! But now the currents (gulfloop) have been changed and destroyed, and animals have found death by chemicals that shouldnt be there, something else has to "clear" the waters.

Maybe this is a fantastic thing happening after all ...

The globe seems to be a perfectly working and responding system and organism. When magnetism and other things tend to build up to high, a mechanism is activated to restore balance and to conduct these forces and powers to where they are of less harm or even needed. And in my opinion AUGIE is also such an AID-machanism to help survive the changes throughout the univers happening and the (in big perspective) the minor things of humans doing to her (their experiments en terrorisations).

The new Sino-map of Tibet replaces the traditional grouping of Chok-kha-sum or the three regions: Dotod (Kham or East Tibet), Domed (Amdo and Golog) and Utsang (Central Tibet). Now, Amdo, Golog and some old chiefdoms of Kham are pasted together into Qinghai Province, as Kyegu is, while other Kham tribes are scattered in the provinces of Sichuan, Yunnan and the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Kyegu, sometimes translated by locals as “nine lives or rebirth,” or called Kyegu – do (the do, or intersection, refers to its role as a trading town like the other Do in East Tibet – Chamdo and Dartsedo) has been a political, commercial and cultural nexus for nomadic villages of the area for a long time. Kyegu was one of 25 chiefdoms of Nangchen under the guardianship of the King of Nangchen.

Most people in Kyegu today claim a nomadic herding ancestry and have family members who continue to live in isolated nomadic villages in Nangchen, Kyegu, Dritou, Zatou, Trindu and Chumaleb (the six regions that today make up the post 1959 Yushu Province). Out in the streets of Kyegu the dialects are discernible, all fairly similar but for slight regional quirks. A significant portion of this population is made up of nomads who were resettled from their herding lands.
