Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine
It was a beautiful sight on the WeatherRadar, long rows of clouds called cloud streets blossomed over the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday.

Cloud streets form when cold air moves over warmer water or land, picking up moisture and heat. As this warm, moist air rises, it cools and condenses, forming cumulus clouds. If the atmospheric conditions are right and there's a stable layer of air above, the rising air can create parallel cylinders of circulating air.

These cylinders align with the direction of the prevailing wind, resulting in the formation of these long rows of cumulus clouds known as cloud streets or horizontal convective rolls.

Page 1804! the year that Lewis and Clark started out!!

The Lewis and Clark Expedition, also known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition, was the United States expedition to cross the newly acquired western portion of the country after the Louisiana Purchase. The Corps of Discovery was a select group of U.S. Army and civilian volunteers under the command of Captain Meriwether Lewis and his close friend Second Lieutenant William Clark. Clark and 30 members set out from Camp Dubois (Camp Wood), Illinois, on May 14, 1804, met Lewis and ten other members of the group in St. Charles, Missouri, then went up the Missouri River.

The expedition crossed the Continental Divide of the Americas near the Lemhi Pass, eventually coming to the Columbia River, and the Pacific Ocean in 1805. The return voyage began on March 23, 1806, at Fort Clatsop, Oregon, and ended on September 23 of the same year.

According to the drought monitor, Louisiana is experiencing its most widespread drought in more than two decades.

News 10 spoke with Abbeville Fire Department Jude Mire about the Vermilion Parish’s latest struggle with the drought.

“Where they had that plane crash when that Entergy wire hit the ground. I mean, that’s a good example of what can happen. You know, just the electrical wire falling down started that field fire, and my guys had to wait until the electrical line was de-energized so that they could finally put out the fire,” said Mire.

.....exceptional drought conditions going on throughout the state.

It will take about 12-15 inches of rainfall in southwest Mississippi, including Hinds and Warren counties. It will take around 6-9 inches for Madison, Rankin, and Yazoo counties.

This rainfall is needed over a four-week timespan to get out of the drought we have.

Re: Something Just Went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico. The US Navy just sunk a French Submarine

Forecasts for saltwater intrusion along the lower Mississippi River have grown more encouraging. While plans are in motion to safeguard the water supply from excess salt, the slow-motion crisis has raised public awareness of the various water intakes along the river.

The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans has four such intake structures, two on each riverbank. A Louisiana Illuminator review of public records has found dangerous flaws in the intakes have been allowed to linger for several years.

One in Algiers has been out of service for at least 34 years, and the sole remaining west bank inlet has routinely had barges — some containing oil and chemicals — lashed to it over the past decades. Meanwhile, both east bank intake protection structures have remained unrepaired since tanker ships struck them in 2016 and again in 2021, when the 2016 damage had yet to be fixed.

S&WB spokesperson Grace Birch said in an email projects such as the east bank intake protection repairs have been deferred due to lack of funding.

“We are at a critical point with nearly a billion dollars in capital improvement projects slated for the next five years that are 93% unfunded,” Birch said. “We have scoured every source of City, State and Federal funding, but our customers must know that these are one-time sources that are not sustainable, and we are looking at long-term plans for capital projects, especially as it relates to water treatment and distribution.”

Yet the Sewerage and Water Board’s own documents blame delays in fixing its east bank intake structures not on lack of funding, but on extended legal processes. The utility also set itself back 18 months over 2016 and 2017 when it hired an engineering firm for the project that later withdrew.

The United States Army Corps of Engineers is predicting that water facilities upriver may not see the impacts of the saltwater intrusion, but some areas down the river will continue to face the impacts of the wedge.

As of Thursday, Nov. 9, the latest timeline for the chloride levels for the Boothville, Port Sulphur, and Pointe A La Hache water facilities are expected to remain above 250 parts per million.

A large and extensive fissure has emerged in various locations in and around #Grindavík in #Iceland due to magma intrusion. Photos taken at 16:30 on Friday at the southwest corner of Grindavík reveal a shadowy development within the town limits.

The fissure, previously known as Stamphólsgjá, has significantly widened, leading to soil collapse. This widening is directly linked to the magma intrusion, causing substantial slippage on Friday. The fissure cuts through the middle of the town, disappearing under structures. Limited footage from the weekend indicates significant damage, including near the Grindavík sports center.

Thread: US simulates first-strike nuclear attack on Moscow and St. Petersburg targeting ICBM silos – Russia responds with Bulava fire

"The United States decided to simulate nuclear strikes on Moscow and St. Petersburg with these weapons and predict the results, that is, to count the number of casualties among local residents," Newsweek reported, giving some details.

The report's authors pointed to the need to improve the U.S. nuclear arsenal to contain China and Russia. Production of the B61-13 will not increase the total number of weapons in the U.S. nuclear arsenal, it will simply provide greater flexibility in the use of existing capabilities.

The B61-13 would occupy a much larger impact area and strike 24 times more powerful (360 kilotons) than the bomb dropped by the United States on Hiroshima in August 1945.

In the event of a drop on the largest Russian megacities, the damage would be colossal.

It is estimated that:

311,480 people will be killed and another 868,860 injured if Moscow is hit.
Everything within a radius of a little less than 1 km from the epicenter will turn to dust
The explosion will destroy buildings and most likely kill everyone else within a radius of 1.6 km.
People within a radius of 3 kilometers will suffer from high levels of radiation and die within a month.
Another 15% of survivors will die shortly afterwards from cancer.
In St. Petersburg, 360,150 people may die and another 685,930 people will suffer.
The fire from the explosion will burn for more than six hours, creating a deadly atmosphere in an area of almost 170 square kilometers, about 10-15 times more than in Hiroshima.

The British confirm the American simulations.

Russian “Borei-class” strategic nuclear submarines possess an underwater sonar system extending their detection capabilities beyond the capabilities of their American counterparts by 1.5 times, claimed State-owned media outlet Ria Novosti.

The report, citing a Russian defense magazine article, highlighted the crucial advantage of the Borei-class submarines in detecting enemy ships.

The hydroacoustics system, named Irtysh-Amphora-B-055, surpasses the capabilities of advanced American fourth-generation multipurpose nuclear submarines like the Virginia class and the Ohio-class SSBNs.

My god. To see this thread pinned after all these years. I miss the old GLP. I have this whole thread up to 2012 or so downloaded and printed. That’s hardcore baby lol.

What is even the point of this thread? I never understood what the message was. You seem like the right person to answer this question.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 86219512

the point of this thread is that this is now perhaps the ONLY long-running mega-thread at GLP that is a semi-permanent thread to track phenomena in the natural world. other long-running threads track mystical encounters, various theories in human society, politics, world economics, space entities, etc etc etc .

we need one semi-permanent thread that can serve as a general archive for various strange events and anomalies relating to the NATURAL world. this is the ONLY mega-thread that does so. thanks!
