Since I'm attending a blessing ritual this weekend, I'll post the following...

A Ritual for the Blessing and Protection of Children, Babies, and Pregnant Mothers

Introduction:

Stand or sit comfortably, close your eyes, and take deep, slow breaths to ground and center yourself. Visualize roots growing from your body into the earth, connecting you to its nurturing energy.

3. Invoking the Elements:

Light four candles representing the elements in their respective directions:

Earth (North): Acknowledge the stability, fertility, and grounding energy that the element of earth brings. Speak words of gratitude for its presence within the lives of children, newborns, and those about to be new mothers.

Air (East): Recognize the element of air's ability to breathe in new life, knowledge, and inspiration. Invite its cleansing and clear communication to bless and guide children and mothers.

Fire (South): Embrace the transformative and protective energy of fire. Call upon its warmth, passion, and illumination to guard and nourish the spirits of children and mothers alike.

Water (West): Tap into the element of water's emotional intelligence, intuition, and adaptability. Request its blessings to flow through the lives of children, babies, and pregnant mothers, ensuring their emotional well-being.

4. Anointing and Protection:

Dip your finger into the anointing oil and bless the forehead, heart, and womb (if applicable) of the pregnant mother or the child.
Express heartfelt words affirming their safety, health, and happiness.

Invite family members or attendees to come forward, one by one, and place their hands gently on the mother's womb or child, offering their blessings, protection, and love. Words of encouragement and support can also be shared.

5. Intentions and Prayers:

Encourage the pregnant mother, or the parents on behalf of the child, to express their intentions and prayers for the child's well-being, development, and protection. These can be written in a journal or on parchment, expressing wishes for a safe and joyous journey into parenthood.

6. Crystalline Blessings:

Place a selection of nurturing and protective crystals or gemstones on the altar. Hold them individually, imbuing them with intentions for the baby's or child's well-being. Visualize the crystals emanating loving and protective energy, enveloping the child or mother.

7. Ancestral Acknowledgment:

If desired, invite the ancestors or deities important to the family's spiritual path to join the ritual. Offer prayers, words of gratitude, or small offerings on the altar, acknowledging their guidance, wisdom, and protection.

8. Conclusion and Closing:

Express gratitude for the elements, ancestors, and deities that have been invoked, as well as for the attended energy and support.

Close the ritual by standing or sitting in a circle, holding hands if desired, and collectively voicing a simple closing statement, such as:

"With love and light, we bless and protect these children and mothers. May their journey be filled with joy, health, and abundance. So mote it be."

Is this in place of bringing gifts or some other such for the child?

If not I think it's a decent thing to do. The resulting collection of (small) crystals could be used in a variety of ways or turned in to decorative pieces, etc.

It's not really in place of, since gift giving usually has a different intention and the use of crystals is almost always geared towards protection and healing. The gifts come later :)
