Yes, and to quote Walt Disney (song from It's a Small World ride) "There is just one moon and one golden sun"

This song has been kicking around in my head for the last few hours. It's a Small, Small, World.

Energy Company Plans to Frack a Volcano
AltaRock Energy and Davenport Newberry, the companies behind the $43 million plan, have been granted a permit to hydrofrack the hot rocks flanking the Newberry volcano in Oregon, where Davenport Newberry has secured federal leases on 62 square miles of land. This will involve injecting water into a series of cracks in the rocks at a high enough pressure that it reaches three kilometres beneath the surface, fracturing connected veins of rock to access the heat beneath and creating a series of connected geothermal reservoirs in the process. Water will be introduced to these reservoirs, where heat from the rocks will turn it to steam, which then turns turbines at surface-level to generate electricity.
[link to www.wired.com]

I know it's a bit off topic, but I thought it would be good to share. My concern is they won't know if it works or not till after they try it out. We have family in this area. I have always liked Oregon being pretty small on the doom meter.

This area is part of the "Three Sisters" volcanoes. We also have the undersea volcano off the Oregon Coast. I believe these are connected underground. Theoretically, it could activate the Cascadia Subduction Fault. That would not be good. But then I would have ocean front property if the big one really hit. GLP has ruined me...I see doom in this.

Edano says no to Kaminoseki nuclear plant project
The head of Japan's industry ministry says it will not allow a power company to start building a nuclear plant in Yamaguchi Prefecture, western Japan.

At a news conference on Friday, Yukio Edano referred to a plan by the Chugoku Electric Power Company to build the plant in Kaminoseki Town.

He said the government's new energy policy rules out new construction of nuclear plants, and that Chugoku Electric's plan is subject to this principle.

Japan's new nuclear regulator stages 1st drill
Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority, or NRA, has staged its first emergency drill since its launch in September.

The drill on Friday was based on a scenario involving a massive earthquake and resulting power blackout at a nuclear fuel reprocessing plant in Rokkasho, in the northern prefecture of Aomori.

TEPCO releases more Fukushima conference footage
Tokyo Electric Power Company has released more footage of its teleconferences from the early days of the Fukushima nuclear accident last year.

The utility released a 6-hour-long video on its website on Friday at the request of media.

The video shows exchanges between the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and the firm's head office in Tokyo during the 5 days from March 11th, 2011, after a massive earthquake and tsunami disabled the plant.

Reactors to be allowed to resume once they are confirmed safe: Edano
Nuclear reactors that are confirmed safe by Japan's new regulatory body will be allowed to resume operation for the meantime without additional assessment by the government, industry minister Yukio Edano said Friday in an attempt to clarify the reactivation process.

"We decided in the new energy strategy that reactors will be used as an important power source once they are confirmed safe," he told a news conference, adding the government sees no need to further assess the restart of individual reactors in terms of power supply and demand.

Sequoyah Unit 2 Steam Generator Replacement

This fall, the four Unit 2 steam generators at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant are being replaced as part of TVA's ongoing efforts to maintain safe, quality performance and to sustain reliable production of energy for customers of TVA power.

In this video, a large crane lifts tons of steel more than 250 feet above the Sequoyah Unit 2 reactor shield building dome, then lowers the pieces to the top of the dome where ironworkers secure them to built concrete piers to form the super structure.

Fennovoima may pick Toshiba reactor over Areva's
Finnish nuclear consortium Fennovoima may choose Japan's Toshiba reactor over Areva's for its nuclear plant in northern Finland as Toshiba's cooling system is better, daily Helsingin Sanomat reported on Friday.

Fennovoima has received offers from the two companies and it is due to decide next year who will deliver the reactor to its Pyhajoki plant.

"Both power plants have a completely electricity free cooling system, but Toshiba has implemented it slightly better," Juhani Hyvarinen, Fennovoima's nuclear engineering chief, told the paper.

AEHI Considering Small Modular Reactors for Proposed Idaho Nuclear Power Plant Site - Potential for Other Western Sites
BOISE, Idaho, Oct. 3, 2012 -- Alternate Energy Holdings, Inc. (OTC:AEHI; www.aehipower.com) today announced the company is exploring the use of small modular reactors (SMR) on its proposed nuclear power plant site in Payette County, Idaho. These designs have progressed to the point of consideration now as they have gotten much closer to the Federal approval stage.

SMRs range between 45 and 220 MWe and because of their modular and easily expandable design, their implementation can be very flexible based on future energy needs.
