I thought it was funny that Anthony was annoyed by how many children her best friend Stanton had. After five she was like..enough already..we got things to do. Stanton had 7 total.

A Victorian Magazine Asked Spinsters Why They Were Single, And The Answers Were Incredibly Savage

A Victorian-era competition likely would have been forgotten to history if not for the work of Dr. Bob Nicholson, who shared his find on Twitter. In 1889, Tit-Bits magazine offered a prize to the spinster who could provide the best answer to the question: Why are you still single? The results proved far too hilariously on point for the magazine to choose just a single winner. Instead, they published their favorites and gave each winner five shillings – the equivalent of about $26 today.

She believed very strongly that religion existed to oppress women. I agree with her.

Spending time over at r/atheism for a welcomed break from religiosity.. Recommend the recent thread written by an Islamic woman yesterday.

I’m a woman who studied Islam in school for 12 years and this is how Islam is really treating women

 Quoting: Seer777

I’m a woman who studied Islam in school for 12 years and this is how Islam is really treating women

I was born in a very Islamic conservative country and its education system requires you to learn 4 religious subjects (quran, hadiths, fiqh, tawhid) per term and 2 other religious subjects(tafseer and tajweed) once per school. I basically studied Islam for 12 years and learned all of its sides. I wanted to write this post because I got tired of all these fake apologists trying to deny our struggles and justify their unfair religion.

A woman body is Awra (awra means something forbidden to look at in Islam and in Arabic it means a flaw or demerit) so she is forced to cover up.

Women’s voices are considered awra which means no man (other than her family and uncles) should hear it unnecessarily.

The wife cannot leave her house without her husband’s agreement.

If a man smelled a woman’s perfume she is as guilty as a zaniah (woman who had premarital sex).

In a Sahih Hadith Mohammad said that women are the majority of the people whom are going to hell.

In another Sahih Hadith Mohammad said that women are incomplete in both religion and mind.

Beating wives is allowed in Islam if they’re not “obeying” their husbands.

A woman obeying her husband is a part (or way) of obeying Allah. Obeying husband is considered more important than obeying her parents in Islam.

A woman can’t divorce her husband but he can divorce her even if he doesn’t have a vaild reason.

A woman cannot object against her husband marrying another wife.

A man should give an amount of money to his future wife which is considered a justification for all the inequality above (seems like buying a slave me thinks).

Women in Islam can’t lead people. There is a Sahih Hadiths that says: a nation would never succeed if a woman led them.

A woman cannot have custody of her kids if she married another man.
marital rape is allowed. If a woman refused to have sex with her husband the angels will curse her until the sun goes up.

Men can marry kids literally but can’t have sex with them before they got their period. Muhammad married Aisha when she was 6 years and had sex with her when she was 9.

Women inheritance is half their brothers’.

Women testimony is half men’s testimony.

Women can’t be judges.

Woman’s kids cannot have her surname

Women cannot marry non-muslim men, however men can marry non-muslim women.

There is a Sahih hadith that says: women come in devil shape and go in devil shape. Its explanation is women seems like devils because they’re “seductive” to men so they shouldn’t walk between men unless it’s necessary. (Victim blaming at its finest)

Men will have plenty of virgin good looking women in Heaven. Women will have none, instead they will have their husbands in heaven.

It wasn't much different in the 1850s for women in America and it took 70 years for women to fight for their right for the Vote.

It was not 'given'. It was fought for, inch by bloody inch over 70 years and 50 years after African American males, won the right vote.

The maker of OxyContin will reportedly pay billions to settle opioid epidemic lawsuits

The deal is expected to be worth around $10 billion to $12 billion, including $3 billion from the Sackler family, according to the Post.

As of 2016, Purdue had made more than $31 billion in revenue from OxyContin.

Still, the settlement would be the largest payout from any company accused of fueling the opioid crisis, which has contributed to the more than 700,000 drug overdose deaths in the US since 1999.

[link to www.vox.com (secure)]

^

The real drug pushers were the doctors writing the prescriptions.

 Quoting: Seer777

REVEALED: Drug overdose deaths in the US increased nearly 30% and claimed a record 93,000 lives in 2020, partly driven by the proliferation of fentanyl on America's streets and the stress of the pandemic

Overdose deaths were mainly driven by opioids, which were responsible for 74%, or 69,710, of fatalities

.....

Prescription opioids and illicit drugs have become incredibly pervasive throughout the US, and things are only getting worse.

In the early 2000s, the FDA and CDC started to notice a steady increase in cases of opioid addiction and overdose. In 2013, they issued guidelines to curb addiction.

However, that same year - now regarded as the year the epidemic took hold - a CDC report revealed an unprecedented surge in rates of opioid addiction.

Overdose deaths are now the leading cause of death among young Americans - killing more in a year than were ever killed annually by HIV, gun violence or car crashes.

 Quoting: Seer777

Imagine starting an epidemic that kills close to a million people in 20 years, Making 31 billion dollars in profit and then getting fined 3 billion for it.

A million deaths and walk away pocketing 28 billion.

Where's the justice? Because I don't see it.

Sackler family

In March 2021, Purdue Pharma filed a restructuring plan to dissolve itself and establish a new company dedicated to programs designed to combat the opioid crisis, according to court documents filed on 15 March 2021.

As part of the proposed plan, the Sackler family would agree to pay an additional US$4.2 billion over the next nine years to resolve various civil claims. However, this would amount to a "legal firewall" that would protect the Sackler family, such as making them immune from criminal prosecutions.

It was thus opposed by 24 state attorneys general as well as the attorney general for Washington, D.C. "If the Sacklers are allowed to use bankruptcy to escape the consequences of their actions," said the state AGs who called the proposal legally unprecedented, "it would be a roadmap for other powerful bad actors."

Recommend the whole episode.

Brilliant writers. You have to have some modicum of intelligence to understand the subtle and sometimes not so subtle hints.

Gunther was the monkey in the garden. The professor took him out of the garden and gave him a hat that gave him the ability to speak and super intelligence. He then enrolls him in a physics class at Mars University.

He and Fry are roommates and Fry is annoyed by him and tries to sabotage Gunther by reminding him constantly that he is a monkey.

The pressure eventually gets to Gunther during a physics test and rips off the hat and runs off.

When Fry and professor find him back in the wilderness, one offers him the hat, the other the banana giving Gunther the choice of knowledge or blissful ignorance.

Thus being tempted in the Garden with the forbidden fruit.

The abuse cycle, coupled with learned helplessness and subsequent subtance abuse.

Bullying and injustice.

[There is only one thing bullies concede to and that is a greater force coming up against them that is genuinely threatening.

Once bullies become systematic abusers, they often surround themselves with people who look away from their behavior, so as not to be a victim of it. Or do so to receive some believed perk(money/power) for being near them.

Narcissistic abusers are spoiled fruit.

We as a species know this inherently and have some how allowed this behavior to manifest, instead of cutting it out when it pops up.

Now we all become part of the abuse cycle.

Speaking of beer..I was surprised to hear the Temperance movement was attached the Woman's Suffrage at one point, which led to it being looked unfavorably upon by males, to later find out that it was due to drunken domestic violence and spending all one's money at the saloon with nothing left for the nearly powerless wife left at home with the kids.

A lot of women watched their kids starve. A blessing most don't see today, but some still do.

I was fortunate enough never to really experience mean drunks. Maybe either because I got lucky or knew well enough to stay away from them.

I personally do drink and often, but not enough to get drunk. Losing control is not an option ever, perhaps that is why it is far more common in males.

Not that it doesn't happen in women. We all had one of those friends that acted a fool. Not wise to engage in the company of those who can't control themselves. Especially with drink.

GEN Z IS THE LEAST RELIGIOUS GENERATION. HERE'S WHY THAT COULD BE A GOOD THING.

Members of Generation Z are losing their religion, for better and for worse. My 17-year-old daughter, Sheila, does not believe in God.

She attended church twice when we were trying to decide whether to raise her with religion (we decided against it). She's been at synagogue a few times, attending friends' bat mitzvahs, but those friends don't believe in God either. Her circle of close friends is diverse in many ways: white, black, Latina, Indian; three identify as bi or gay.

They are less diverse when it comes to religion: Except for one girl, who's an Evangelical Christian, religion is not important to these kids.

[link to psmag.com (secure)]

Atheism Doubles Among Generation Z

It may come as no surprise that the influence of Christianity in the United States is waning. Rates of church attendance, religious affiliation, belief in God, prayer and Bible-reading have been dropping for decades. Americans’ beliefs are becoming more post-Christian and, concurrently, religious identity is changing. Enter Generation Z: Born between 1999 and 2015, they are the first truly “post-Christian” generation.

More than any other generation before them, Gen Z does not assert a religious identity. They might be drawn to things spiritual, but with a vastly different starting point from previous generations, many of whom received a basic education on the Bible and Christianity. And it shows: The percentage of Gen Z that identifies as atheist is double that of the U.S. adult population.

Still, the settlement would be the largest payout from any company accused of fueling the opioid crisis, which has contributed to the more than 700,000 drug overdose deaths in the US since 1999.
