Re: Mad World
I'm not guiltless and have done my share of piracy, when Napster was a thing.

The difference being it was far more difficult to have access to music like we do now. YouTube changed all that.

Theft is a big part of any business and I know over the years that I have people return and buy things to make up for the guilt of having stolen from me in the past.

If someone grabbed a handful of my rings and ran off, I would probably give chase.

When a teenage girl and a couple of her friends palm a ring and walk off, if they ever put it on, will serve as a constant reminder of the theft. Which is often its own punishment.

That's how I see it.
 Quoting: Seer777

Rather well said Seer =)

Good old days of the mix CD for the car, "anti"-skip, and a scratch that would turn any song to rap

chuckle
 Quoting: Sol-tari

It's one of the things about being able to see the person who created what you purchase.

It's different when you're a teen and see lifting some nail polish from Target as a faceless entity. But when you look someone in the face and still steal from them, it changes the dynamic. I've had mothers embarrass their daughters bringing back items that were stolen. It's uncomfortable for everyone.

Most people are honest. Most people do not steal and those who do are either immature and in for a lesson or will do it regardless because they feel no guilt for it.

Often I think that is a consequence of desperation brought on by drug addiction or mental illness. Probably both.

It's not worth it for me to try to catch them when karma takes care of it for me.

That crust looks disgusting, who would put that shit in their mouth?! WRONG! So unbelievably wrong. If this thought even flickered across your mind go punch yourself in the gob right fucking now.

This smooth, rich fatty gloop is like butter and double cream had a delicious artery-clogging baby full of unicorn dreams.

On a lighter note..I don't think I'll be able to eat a snickerdoodle without clotted cream, ever again.

Heaven.

It has taken me many years, several psychiatrists, counsellors, psychotherapists, and a great psychologist, not to mention an undergrad and PhD in physics (had to undo all of that pseudoscience somehow!) to even begin to move on. It has only been in the last two years that I have been able to bring myself to recognise just how much harm this ideology caused me and so many others like me.

I thought that something was fundamentally wrong with me and didn't want to blame anything on my upbringing.

I certainly don't blame my parents, they were as loving and caring as anyone could ask for and raised my brother and I in the only way that they believed would bring us salvation from this "wicked" world. It is just tragic that the psychological conditioning has blinded them to the wickedness in their religion.

Endless potential.

I spent my entire life waiting for Armageddon.

I don't have to believe in that future anymore. Even if it happens, I don't have to be a part of it. It can come and go, and I feel like life will go on.

Like it always does. That's where I am at with it.

Re: Mad World
In Catholic Italy, ‘de-baptism’ is gaining popularity

What the procedure does is formalize the person’s abandonment of the church,” said Mombelli.

While agreeing that it is impossible to cancel a baptism, Italy’s Personal Data Protection Authority now states that everyone has the right to abandon the church.

The de-baptism is finalized once an applicant declares the intention to abandon the church and the decision is registered by the church authorities, normally the local bishop.

But according to canon law, anyone who goes through the procedure is committing the crime of apostasy, which, Mombelli said, comes with “severe consequences.”

An apostate immediately faces excommunication from the church, without need of a trial. This means that the person is excluded from the sacraments, may not become a godparent and will be deprived of a Catholic funeral.

“There’s a substantial difference between the sin of apostasy and the crime of apostasy,” Mombelli said. “An atheist commits the sin because it’s an internal decision, and they can be forgiven if they repent. An apostate, instead, manifests their will to formally abandon the church externally, so they face legal consequences for their decision.”

Artificial Intelligence Does Not Concern Me, but Artificial Super-Intelligence Frightens Me

Sophia, Watson, and Asimov do not concern me at all. They are controllable and loving artificial intelligence robots that enhance our capabilities and add meaning to our lives.

However, suppose the capabilities of these lovely robots fall into the hands of people who have no concern about human suffering and even enjoy killing them for their enjoyment. If that were to happen using artificial super-intelligence, the apocalyptic future imagined by The Terminator movies could become a reality.

This article is not about giving answers or scaring people but to ask some informed questions to create awareness of the need for society to take a long and hard look at the ethical issues surrounding artificial super-intelligence and other advanced technologies supporting this movement.
I do not wish to discourage the progress of technology.

On the contrary, I am a technology advocate and have spent more than four decades of my life studying and working on the technology of artificial intelligence.

Morning Seer

Found the 2 episodes on the animatrix dedicated to the beginning of the war to be an excellent metaphor.

After the above, robots created their own nation, and due to the tech, began crashing other countries currencies simply because they could not compete.
The robots came to the UN with a treaty to ensure cooperation in a friendly manner...which humanities leaders rejected...
And thus began the war...
