Washington state police release tweeting guidelines for citizens -

Law enforcement agencies in Washington state are asking social media users to give their tweeting fingers a rest when it comes to posting the real-time activities of police officers on the job.

Nine police departments across the state signed up last month to take part in a Tweet Smart campaign, and the officials involved hope it’ll be enough to keep eyewitnesses from accidentally ruining law enforcement operations by broadcasting policy activity over Twitter.

Others, though, including Seattle, WA photographer Michael Holden, said the Tweet Smart campaign could be just the start of a slippery slope in which reporting is silenced to a larger degree.

Donna Gordon Blankinship, the AP reporter who brought the Tweet Smart story out of Washington state and into the national headlines with a Thursday morning report, wrote that “Holden said he saw a direct path between asking people not to share crime photos and eventually forbidding them to take them.”

Shark Attack … In a Lake?!

The idea of a shark attacking someone in the ocean is scary enough, but this week, a 7-year-old boy was bitten by one of these fearsome fish in a lake.

The boy was swimming in Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana, when something bumped into him in the water and chomped down on his foot, USA Today reported. The bite's appearance suggests it was probably a bull shark measuring about 5 feet (1.5 meters) long, experts say. The boy is expected to recover from the incident.

While it may seem unusual for a shark to turn up in this part of Louisiana, Lake Pontchartrain isn't strictly a lake — it's an estuary, a coastal body of brackish water connected by rivers or streams to the open ocean. The lake is connected to the Gulf of Mexico by the Mississippi River.

Here's an eye opener keep telling everyone don't eat the noodles

Why Ramen Noodles Could Cut Your Life Short

Holy hotplates! Instant ramen noodles, beloved cheap dinner of college kids and budget eaters everywhere, have been linked to heart attacks and diabetes. A study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that the ramen, along with other instant noodle products, may increase a person’s risk for cardiometabolic syndrome — a risk factor for severe cardiovascular disease and stroke — especially in women.

“This research is significant since many people are consuming instant noodles without knowing possible health risks,” said lead researcher Hyun Joon Shin, MD, in a press release. Shin, a clinical cardiology fellow at Baylor University Medical Center and a nutrition epidemiology doctoral student at the Harvard School of Public Health, could not be reached for further comment.

For the study, researchers looked at the data of 10,711 adults between the ages of 19 and 64, collected via the nationally representative Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey of 2007-2009. They found that eating instant noodles — ramen, lo mein, glass, Thai, or other — twice or more a week was associated with cardiometabolic syndrome, a collection of abnormalities affecting the body’s cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic systems.

Although the specific cause of the problem was not immediately clear, Shin noted that it might stem from the fact that most instant noodle meals come packaged in Styrofoam, which contains bisphenol A (BPA), a known hormone disruptor — which is also why women could have been more affected in this study. But the food product contains plenty of unhealthy ingredients, including MSG and the chemical preservative tertiary-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), and is also high in saturated fat.

Besides the styrofoam, I wonder if it is the actual noodles or the flavor packet that is the danger. I use a recipe about 2x per year where I do use the noodles but throw away the flavor packet, no styrofoam involved.

Today was an awesome day.

Had an article published in a major industry publication.

Got a nice nice NICE performance bonus.

Got a major industry figure to...well...I can't reveal anything at this point even on an anonymous account.

All in all a majorly AWESOME day.

Actually, any day that I never have to go work at my previous hell of employment is a great day. But today was exceptionally awesome.

Cloud Nine - it's been a long while my friend.
