Happy Friday Kickin!

Yes, happy Friday to you as well! And everyone else!

Well, I just checked in w/a friend as to whether she still felt like doing happy hour. She said she had a rough day and I could really use this evening to cover my candies I made last weekend in chocolate, so we agreed to bag it. So, chocolatiering it is (if that's a word). Already have the chocolate in the double boiler! I'll be glad to get it done, then I only have cookies left to make as we get closer to the holiday.

Oh, and I will sip some wine while this is going on so it's still happy hour. Albeit alone in my kitchen.

I had a neighbor that used to give us a box of home made every Christmas. Man were they good! So good for you for keeping it alive as it's a great tradition. I would rather get a gift like that than anything you could buy for me. He passed on maybe 15 years ago, but it was always something to look forward to!!! Kudo's!
 Quoting: bigD111

Thanks Big D. Wish I could bring you some. I started doing a lot of holiday baking when I was pretty young. My older sister did a ton of it, and once she moved out of town I sort of took over because it had become a tradition with the family and family friends looked forward to the goodies. Nowadays I just do a few select things that I have mastered and somewhat become known for in my circle - two kinds of candy and two kinds of cookies. This year I might make add a third cookie if I have time. They are all unique and not what anyone else would make, so I get away with less variety :) I send a bunch to my family so it's tricky because I have to get enough done early to ship, but I also need some for people here that I want to be fresh. It always ends up being a frantic finish, but I eventually get it done. I bitch about doing it, but truth be told I like having these goodies around for myself too. The stuff I make I only make at Xmas so they have become special treats. Also, this tradition is one of the few I have left from my childhood. And really my adulthood until my mom died. That changed Xmas forever and although I have no problems with how it is now, I do like the comfort of holding on to some tradition of ye olde days.

I don't follow that logic. There is ample reason to believe that in fact this will be a very active month. How can you base any prediction on one event only? Explain.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73443188

As i said. The activity that day had some simlarity thats why i made that post.
The aftershocks indicate things are not getting worse for now.

I would be more worried if the recent 6 points weren't aftershocks but random quakes popping up in around the globe.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71626364

Oh okay my bad, I thought you were speaking about globally. Solomon Islands yes I can see that analogy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73443188

not your bad. I am absolutely speaking globally actually...
I compared it to Chile right? the next 7.0 in the rest of the world didn't occur until more than a month later. And that was a 8.3

yesterday was something between 7.7-8.0 depending on who you trust.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71626364

Okay then I have a question: what if we take a larger sample and compare, what about all the times something did in fact occur after a 7.7-8.0 ? Surely they must outweigh this one particular 8.3 in Chile?

I just compared yesterday with september 16 2015 (8.3 chile)

there are some similarities in terms of timing. The third EQ of the day was also the biggest that day and followed by aftershocks.
Based on that and IF things will go down as usuual, we do NOT have to worry about anything above 7.0 in the next days, maybe even weeks.
Not saying a game changer is impossible but remember one thing:

Fear monger threads will always pop up after days with a lot of activity lol. Thats what they do.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73443188

Why do you believe it will be so active? The supermoon?
Just trying to figure that out for sure.

Here is some data that might help you also:

Quake activity per month of 8.0+ quakes
OCT = 4
JAN = 5
FEB = 6
JUN = 6
JUL = 6
AUG = 7
MAR = 9 // 9.0 & 9.3 Japan & Alaska
APR = 9
DEC = 9 // 9.1 Sumatra
NOV = 10
SEP = 11
MAY = 13 // 9.6 Chile

By Season:
SPRING - MAR APR MAY = 9+9+13 = 31
FALL - SEP OCT NOV = 11+4+10 = 25
WINTER - DEC JAN FEB = 9+5+6 = 20
SUMMER - JUN JULY AUG = 6+6+7 = 19

Currently Kp5

G1 - Minor geomagnetic storm expected

I'm on the seismic realtime site watching it jump but I'm not sure where it is?
